just had to ad my two cents, since I live in San Francisco "what is flat? "not familiar with that dimension.
Pete in SF cheers |
If it takes work to climb, it's a hill. What is work varies from person to person and day to day. Like art, I don't know what it is, but I know it when I see it.

It's a hill when it's a pain in the butt.
Yeah, you have a few in San Diego. Laurel is a good example. There is one block that is almost vertical. Morley Field Dr. in Balboa Park is another good short intimidator. |

Many years ago I use to commute into the SF valley from Topanga. Topanga Canyon Blvd, Tuna Canyon Road and Stunt Road are definitely character builders. Broke many a gut out in them there hills. In those days, the real - NOT ME - road warriors climbed those hills with 42X16's. Ah yes, those were the days. My first time up Stunt was in a 42 x 21. The smallest gear any self- respecting roadie would carry, even in an area with plenty of 15 and 18% climbs. Tuna is a hill, Las Flores is a hill but both will kill you if you let them. |
