Am I being indecisive?
This is what I got to work with:
--relatively new bike with a new cheap back tire for trainer use. --mountain bike with both knobby and slick tires. --Kurt Kinetic trainer. --several Spinergy DVD's. --Kentuckiana weather which is modestly nasty, certainly not as bad as for you Michaguners. --local trails which suffer from 'freeze-thaw' from December to April. Which bike should I set up on the trainer? The road bike is geared higher (50x12) so I'd get a better workout. It'll also keep the poor thing from getting cold. I also hate changing tires. But my mountain bike handles like a truck and I can't use it on the trails anyway. Or I could just put slicks on it and suffer on the roads. Or I could ride my road bike in the cold months and put the mountain bike on the trainer. But the mountain bike is geared much lower (44x12) so the work-out wouldn't be as good on the trainer. But I dislike trainers and think that Coach Troy is the Anti-Christ. Or I could go to spin classes, but they're either at 6AM or 7PM so I don't care for those times. And the spin classes are full of lycra-clad body Nazis. What would you do? |

What I will probably do is sit around all winter and get fat. What I'd SAY is: 1. Put the road bike on the trainer. 2. Use the mountain bike over the winter. The wider tires are more sure footed in "iffy" road conditions and riding trails in the woods during the winter is better because the trees block the wind. 3. You say "lycra-clad body Nazis" like it's a bad thing. |
Maybe. Not sure. Let me think for a while
|
I think it is a indecisive question - so you are being indecisive.
|
It does depend on whether the Lycra clad Nazis are male or female.
Doesn't matter either way as if you ask them out for a "Real" ride on a real bike on a real trail or road- They won't come as they don't own a bike. |
So far everyone has failed the test!!!!!! You need a new bike! Go shopping.
You won't be happy, complete and whole until you have researched, shopped for and purchased the perfect bike complete with just the proper tires and gearing for your changeable trail conditions. Supply pics after the purchase please. |
Hmmmm..............................................7!

Trainers are the work of the devil. Sell the trainer and the mountain bike. Buy a new MTB that doesn't handle like a truck, that fits you and you enjoy. Then ride outdoors, where God intended bicycles to be ridden.
|
Get a 29'r Single speed MTB, good workout, good control, lot's of fun on the snow...In the snow...
I know this will probably be my next bike, but that Lemond Proprad I built yesterday is sure sweet! |
This thread has lots of good advise. I like #10. And #7. #9 makes sense to me. #3 works too. I just don't know....

choices and we'll choose your new Christmas gift!!! :):):) |
Put the cheap rear slick on one of the old bikes you've got hanging around the garage, and use it on the trainer (got to be one that the cranks still spin on)!! Both of your bikes will be available when you want them, and you'll be putting one of the old ones to use!
|
duh, move to Florida and buy a new bike too. As a bonus there is a huge market for your line of work. You might say we are up to our a**es in old people.
|
I'd go for the lycra-clad body Nazis.
|
Wwdgd? :)
|
Build a fixie. You know you want to
Richard Blue skies, gentle breeze, 22C. Just been for a ride. Man I love spring :D **what's this 'snow' stuff you keep talking about?** |
Hmmm....not sure....what do you think?
;) |
You are asking the wrong questions. The question you should be pondering at this point in time is why is it that nobody from your alma mater or your home state's university can kick a stinking field goal to defeat the orange menace and help a brother out? :(
But I guess a Rose Bowl or Orange Bowl appearance is a pretty decent consolation prize. |
I dunno. Ask DG, he's good at making decisions.
|
Have you made your decision yet..............if so............No.
If not ...............yes. |
