Avatar Hijacking

I was in the tandem forum when I saw a post by The Weak Link. I thought...this is interesting, what is he doing here. The post was reasonably intelligent (I became suspicious) and I continued reading. Then at the bottom there was another post by The Weak Link requesting the OP post his finding so that others could gain value. I was now sure something was wrong. Sure enough, it was an imposture. Another forum member is using The Weak Links avatar. Or... Well, clearly The Weak Link would never hijack an avatar. Is this coincidence or willful infringement? Should avatars be unique?

How could one know if their avatar is in use by one of the other tens of thousands of BF users?

It's a lot like copyright, I guess. No one else can or should be Hermes or Tom Bombadil, but The Weak Link is a bit more generic.

I saw that too and immediately put the imposter--the faux Weak Link, if you will--on my list of undesirables using the Control Panel.

Gauche, how gauche!
