Guads of Glory

Just thought I would relate what cycling (and excercise) does for you.

I have a very active lifestyle. commuting with a bike on backrounds in the tropics, hiking our farms (500 acres now) - riding horses, etc. I use my legs a lot.

I do carry a little more than I wish in weight (probably about 10 lbs) but it doesn't seem to slow me down. I am 6'2" and 190 lbs or so.

Anyway, I had a group I was leading through the a finca. I placed two of the women on horses because one of them was concerned about the hike, she was not in terrible shape, but everyone else was in very good shape. Two were tri-athletes.

Having dealt with the potential slowpokes , I started off at my normal pace. After a few minutes, I looked back and saw, except for those on horses, they were way behind, struggling to keep up. Including the tri-athletes!

Hmmm, I thought, maybe they were taking pictures. Nope, kept happening until I put them in front of me so that I would stop striding out.

Pretty amazing really and I was really surprised. I do know when we landed down here about 3 1/2 years ago there was no way I would be going up those hills like I did this week.

Nice to know I can walk tri-athletes into the ground now. :D

Great reminder of what keeping in shape will do for you!! Good to hear things are still going well for you in CR.

Thanks, we are doing better than ever. We have our challenges at times, but over all, I sure can't complain. Today I am thinking on how to take a break - the last month or so has been really busy.

Hate to say it but I would be with the Tri athletes on the walking stakes. Old knee injuries limit my walking skills and speed so I do not do walking. The knee injury was why I took up cycling by the way- or at least one of the reasons.

Mind you- Give me the scenery that you have and over a couple of years I might improve myself to get a look at the scenery- from where even a bike cannot go.

The tri athletes where 31 and under - doubt they had the same issue.

But you are right, it is all in the motivation.

What a great feeling that must have been -- and maybe a humbling experience for the athletes.

What exactly are you doing in CR, anyway? I mean, besides beating up visiting athletes...;)

We are growing trees - you can see what we are up to by checking out www.fincaleola.com

We allow people to invest in trees with us as a means for them to earn money, and for us to return pasture to rainforest.
