Where is winter?
Mild here, min. 10 C getting up to 25 C during the day, great cycling weather.
Twice a week I ride mornings 05:45 with a cycling buddy. Short 40 km stints on some nice untrafficked roads. Weekends we do 100 and up km. This thurs the group is doing beer sheva to eilat 230 km. I unfortunately can't join.
Waiting for winter to come, I miss the rainy days and hot chocolates.

My group does "beer" after most Saturday rides-- along with enchiladas and nachos. After that, nobody is good for many kilometers. Berts, do we have a geo-cultural misunderstanding here?

If Berts misses the rain, I bet it's not the cold, all-day stuff at 3C like we had a few weeks ago.

Hmmm, I have been missing winter for 3 1/2 years. But, perhaps missing is the wrong word to use. Hiding from it is closer to the truth.

- where is winter?
- up North!
(and at high elevations)
:-)
- seriously though, we're in winter here... it was only 78F out on the fishing pier yesterday...
(watched a guy land a 3-foot tuna on 8-lb test; we only caught pinfish on squid and shrimp)

I thought at first that Beer Sheva was some kind of new malted drink. Or maybe Sheva means "group", as in "beer group".
Just jokin...............

14F here this morning. Went out for a run properly dressed with a balaclava and heavy mittens. Can't imagine riding a bike in these conditions (although I'm sure that some of you do!).

Metric, Yes!!
Get over it, we're going to go metric just like the rest of the world. And last Saturday when it was 2C here in Kansas I decided that it would be "fun" to do a 20 - 40K in the snow "flurries." Learned lots of lessons!

That'll be a shame for temperature. Fahrenheit is much more of a "human-related" scale. Basically, I know that 100F is damned hot and 0F is damned cold, and we can exceed both of those during a given year here.
With the Celsius scale, the whole months of January and February might be "sub-zero", which doesn't really mean much to me. And in summer, what's the significant temperature when you really feel like it's hot out there?

In MN it was 8 degrees for most of the day yesterday. Can't wait for SNOW! I love that feeling when you've been outside for a couple hours, and you walk into your house and it feels like a sauna at only 66 degrees. I love giant wet flakes of snow out the window with a little fire in the fireplace and a good mystery. And hot buttered rum. MMMMM. Winter rocks. Not for biking, just to stay on topic.

Yeah, as long as it's cold, it might as well be snowy and I can use the XC skis more than a couple of times a year. Not only that, but I have a set of dedicated snow tires on my car for the first time and am anxious to get my money's worth out of them.

Yes! I don't know how I forgot that there is a precise date and time for the solstice.
In this case it is 22 December 0608 UTC.
Winter begins for those of us north of the equator, while those "down under" are looking forward to summer.
To add insult to injury the Earth is closest to the Sun on January 2-3.

Official first day of winter today and I am thinking it has got lost- Probably took a left turn in Denver. Dryest autumn for many years- Wettest summer though- Highest period of Sunshine and high temps in April.
Weather has gone mad but still haven't had GOOD riding weather for any length of time. Have to have the occasional bad year I suppose but if they put on the hosepipe ban again when I have 2" of water in the garden- I might have to go abroad for a while to regain my sanity.

Winter is up North where it is supposed to be. Many years ago when I worked construction outside I spent part of a winter in Northern Ohio and finished it in Northern Illinois. Then when I thoght it was finally over I got sent to Iowa where a March blizzard hit. That was it for me. On this mornings ride I could have used a light jacket and that is plenty of winter for me.

It is definitely here in Wisconsin, our lakes and rivers are freezing over. I saw people ice skating on a river on my way to work this morning. It was 19 early this morning, 17 yesterday morning.

Winter has made a couple of visits to northwest Arkansas with its best friends dark and wind. Given the vile nature of these three, daylight saving time and warmth got offended, packed up, and left... and my mileage has gone to the dogs.

It was 25 when I rode to work this morning and 32 when I rode down to the gym this afternoon and 29 when I left the gym for home if it hadn't been windy it wouldn't have been bad at all, but I do admit I'm just not looking forward to February

Tom, is your new avatar from the movie "the Seventh Seal" directed by Ingmar Bergman? It looks so familiar to me, but I can't place it.
