N+3 Oh no...what have I done?

Look what I found at 9am on a rainy morning in CT. At the present, all I know is that its a 54 or 55 and that most of what looks like rust is dirty grease.

Dawg....its steel
DG...its not white
Robtown...you probably already have a lot of these

Maxx....now you have to rebuild it.............

Oh................it was $20..............I may have overspent but you never can tell about these things.

It looks like my old Schwin Varsity with the shifters mounted on the bar stem.

As near as I can tell from preliminary research, its a 25 to 30 year old Centurion Sport (read here, entry level) with a "High Tension" steel frame and all Suntour running gear. 10 speeds with stem shifters. Those may be the original tires.. The tires and tubes are dead, the running gear seems solid with some cable replacements necessary. There is minimal rust anywhere, just a little roughness in the paint at the bottom of the fork.

I think that after a little cleanup I might let oldest son buy it from me.... If it were mine.........well, I'm a restoration heathen. I'd go carbon on the fork, threadless on the headset, 28 spoke Maxx wheels..................................

Heh, heh, heh. So now you understand how some old ladies come to be living with 40 cats in their little apartments. The nice thing about bikes is there's no litter box to clean.

Nice red with gold accents - and you cannot go wrong with chrome forks. The first thing I'd do is replace the stem shifters with bar-end shifters. The second would be to make all the metal bits shiny.
My pink and yellow Centurian is due Tuesday via DHL.

Enjoy your fine catch.

I think "high tension" is code for cheap pipe. Looks like a good beater or fixie candidate, but I couldn't see investing much in upgrades for that frame. I like the accents on the lugs.

Looks like it spent its life in a garage/basement. Stem shifters! A crank that you throw away when the big ring wears! Excellent candidate for a purely functional bike - one speed?
