Do you clean you chain?
I thought about this as I was riding today - in response to DF trying to get folks to answer simple question. I hope everyone is equally offended

MTB's get cleaned after every ride. The road bikes get cleaned about every 100 miles or so. Then washed out with wd40 to really get clean and then dried overnight at least- Then it is lube before I forget to do it before a ride.
Today on a ride- I heard a chain sqeaking from about 100 yards from behind it. I would say that chain had not been cleaned or lubricated from new- And it was an old bike. It did look good though with that "Orange" patina all over it.

I probably under-maintain my chains, but I use a paraffin-based compound (White Lightning or Race Day) which is supposed to clean as well as lubricate. I do inspect them frequently for tight rollers, sunken rivets, and elongation, and I replace them per Sheldon's 1/2 percent rule. I seldom remove a chain unless I am replacing it.

Yes I clean my chain whenever needed. I ride mostly street so sometimes once a month or once a day in the rainy season. Park Tools have a good tool for this, here's the link.
