Impressive. Also being in the South....47 degrees is pretty much my low as well. On blood thinners and I think that's a part of it.

I live up around Washington, DC and my lower limit is more like 32-35 degrees, depending on the wind. But I wonder whether in a way we’re actually doing the same thing, adapting to riding at a lower temperature limit that lets us ride regularly throughout the winter? Riding at 47 degrees is of course much nicer than riding at 32 degrees, but if I stopped riding whenever it gets below 47, I’d be able to ride only occasionally during the winter.

Out here we can ride in every month with some preps for the wet and damp and low angle winter sun.
Near the water = very few days of snow/sleet/ice. Almost none in last few years.
Fenders and layers do it. Below 40, means my toes are the limiting factor. 68 years old

yes living in Knoxville, we have the four seasons but no drastic cold, I am sure we adapt to our conditions, lived in the Dc area years ago, after the military, you also have humidity in the summer like us,

Winter in Central Indiana is a crapshoot. Able to ride yesterday in sunny 60 degree weather but we were sub-zero in the middle of last week.
I'm good down into the 30's but am much more likely to ride at 50 and above. Being newly retired, I anticipate more winter miles because when the odd nice winter day happens, I should be available to take advantage of it.

The prevalence of ice is the biggest factor here, but 3’ of snow the past 2 weeks means the shoulders are often partially covered with plowed snow. I can ride when it’s 40 but even if I’m comfortable I don’t enjoy it that much (also, it might not get up to 40 for weeks at a time). In 10 days I’m hitting the road to camp and gravel ride in Florida, Georgia and wherever it’s warm. Will probably give the Swamp Fox Gravel Fondo a try.

The temps have kept icy spots in many areas even tho the roads are mostly clear. No shoulder to speak of with the plowed snow (now icebergs) and accumulated sand and debris. High temps in the 30s.
Was going to venture out on the bike.

We had another 4" snow yesterday. Tomorrow snowshoeing, the next day Alpine skiing. Then hopefully having the energy to spin and lift at the gym. Etc. The next ten days looks just the same - cold and occasional snow so a choice of indoor training or fun at the Pass. Unusual here. We usually get a warm rain after a few days of snow and then floods.

It's mid-February. Upper Midwest this year feels like the NE. Heavy snow, deep freeze(-27* wind chill), 48* sunny for the weekend following, then just WI Feb cold(20s and wind). Tonight its snowing and 20s. Can't nordic ski, road bike or put the mtb on the paved trail(just not enjoyable). All in all, a very ****ty winter for the bike. Thank god for zwift. I would probably be on Dateline if not for my global virtual community.

Here in Western New York, there's a bit more skiing to be done before I get to that new Orbea Avant in the basement. At 68,I'm looking to build up my miles and am looking forward an Erie Canal end to end in July.

Bethany Beach boardwalk yesterday.
I have a 2014 Orbea Avant MD30 that I purchased new in 2016. Nice bike, real comfortable. I put a riser type stem on it, Ritchey Pro 110mm 30 deg rise. I also switched wheels from unbranded Shimano to Corsa Vuelta SLX with 28 mm Hutchinson Fusion 5 tires. A very large diference in weight. I put 38 miles on it yesterday. I hope you like yours.

They're great! I've convinced my regular riding group to all use them and now we can more easily have conversations while riding briskly. They also make it much easier to hear cars coming up from behind and drastically reduce that tiresome roaring sound of the wind. You do need to adjust the helmet straps so that they're snug to make them work properly. The only downside is that they look a bit dorky, but when everyone in the group is using them it doesn't matter (plus at my age, dorkiness is not the most significant body image issue). Sadly, they're no longer available in a wide array of colors...only basic black.

This morning's ride the temp never got above 30F. Saw a low of 24 on the Garmin, but it reads low. Fingers and toes were not happy.

I finally got out today now that both hand surgeries are behind me. Haven't ridden in the past 3 weeks and last period of regular riding was in mid-December. Felt good to get out. Rode 15 miles.
