I ride my bike at the events and go to each encampment to drum up business for my services. also I preach auf deutsch cuz I am the wehrmacht chaplain or feldgeistliche. Also known as Kriegspfarrer ie. "war-priest" my bicycle bell substitutes for a chapel bell by the time you read this I will be seventy years old, a true geezer, I intend to ride my bike in the public battle in England Arkansas on January 15-17 , 2010 I have a nifty altar cloth and cross with about 250 rhinestones. my sermon starts "Niemand weisst was morgen bringt....No one knows what tomorrow will bring,,,

I've been trying to find some WARM gloves for winter riding but haven't found them yet. The ones I have keep my hands (fingers) warm for 30 minutes, then my fingers are cold. Hard to work the brakes or shifters when my fingers get cold. Seems that the circulation in the extremities decreases as we age.
I've tried ski gloves, gortex gloves, and so-called warm gloves with a liner. Nothing works.
So, I'm asking you 65+ folks what gloves you use for riding when the temperatures get below about 35-40F (2-4C).

As I approached 65, I was trolling this forum while riding my Specialized Allez, getting in shape for the first time in a decade and looking forward to maybe a Century down here in south Florida. Then the bike and I had a fall and I sit here with a broken collarbone and two broken ribs. I'm hoping to be back on the bike within two months and, in the meantime, will enjoy posting to this forum legally.
You back to riding?
Remember, try to keep the side with the wheels down!

I am sorry to hear of you trouble, I guess I have been lucky in not crashing. I have had issues with a I. T. band on the right knee, but so far it's been ok since. I am in Arizona so the weather is quite different with regard to humidity anyway. We have kids and grand kids there, and when we visit them I can sure tell the difference. Good luck and get well soon.

He said if all goes well I should be riding again in a few weeks,
Wish me luck,
All the best Ian

I'm tempted to get these but is it "appropriate" attire for the 65+ cyclist?

At this stage of the game I wear what ever I want. When I was younger and wanted to impress others, the need to excel dictated what I did and what I wore. Now I could care less what others think. As long as I don't embarrass the wife too bad, I am ok.

DR you are doing just great.
Riding in the winter 50-60 miles, that's great. Make me feel bad I live in 90 degree weather and I only get in 40-60 miles on a good week.

Hi: I'm from MN but ride in FL during Jan and Feb. I've found that Pearl Ozumi sells a pair of gloves that works well for me down to those temps of yours. I bought them last season and I think they cost about 70 bucks. I know that's spendy but if you are going to ride in cold weather on a regular basis, you have to spend the money and get the good gear or its no fun at all to be riding in.
good hunting!!

Getting over sickness
The golden years they say. I wonder who came up with that?
I got an infection in my sinuses and just can't seem to shake it. Been through two series of antibiotics, now the ear, nose and throat guy wants to operate on me. He took a CT Scan and said it's either that or put up with the sinus head aches, and feeling like a dish rag. Had to cancel my bike race next month as I won't have time to train for it. It's two day 100/60 mile MS event in Florence AZ that my son and I were going to do. Dang, I waned to beat him too. I sure hope this all works out for the best. It seems it takes longer to get over things, the older I get.
