But I've hung onto a too-large Ross Pro and spent today stripping the Shimano 600 EX gear for the Nishiki. Which was my second choice behind a decent Italian frame. I don't think I could deal with the large number of rainy days you folks have over there.

Congrats on Beater Challenge, will read that thread in it's entire-ity. Amazing what I learn in beater threads! :thumb: If I start a build the budget is never too exotic, but always ^^^ $100ish. Heck, every bike rides better with lightweight tubies, which breaks the budget for a pair.

As for the PNW gray days, yeah, bothers most - so you improve your various skiing muscles, snow shoe skills and crank-on damp day hikes. Kayaks help. I still gain 5-10# with the hearty winter dishes served in this household.
I vacationed and rode in flat central Arkansas this month and was uninspired. But the weather was mostly GREAT.

Well, the original Latin phrase is: "Tempus fugit."

My slant on it is: "Tempus f*** it"

Probably not the first to put it that way, but an original thought nonetheless............

11/14/47 made it, still riding, waiting fo the snow to melt .

At age 84 am fortunate to still ride around a hundred miles weekly year 'round here in AZ.
My wife, age 82 coming up, still rides twice a week with me on our custom tandem; now, that's TWOgetherness!

Bob from the White Mountains of New Hampshire

Bob from New Hampshire here, almost 66. Here's the weather in my backyard today (updates every 60-sec). It's March 5, 2017, +3 F and 30+mph winds, and I have it on good authority that we will definitely have spring by the first of July!

Inquiring minds

Any idea who is the oldest rider in this neighborhood? I just turned 64. very encouraging to see a post from a gentleman ,age 84 !
I jus got a brand new 2016 Fuji Altamira 1.3. got fitted and took it out for a spin. did 5 miles ,turned around and went home.
What would be a reasonable progression to build endurance? Idid the 5miles in about 20minute. Could have done doble the time. think I had the stamina, but did not want to over do it.
Was invited to a 75 mile ride in April. wandering if going would be premature.
Any thoughts ,ideas or suggestions are welcomed and most appreciated:D

CMBravo - Welcome!

I do think that a 75 mile ride the month after you got your first road bike would be premature. It was a pretty nice gesture on the part of the person who offered it, though. I'd ask for a rain check for some time this summer. It's good to have a goal to work towards, that way you can plan your rides to gradually work up to it. Finding a club would help in that, you'd have folks to advise you as you progress, and to ride with as well.

Remember - the rubber side goes down. :)

I seldom check out the 50+thread, much less the 65+, but can someone bring me up to speed on DnvFox, and why his account has received a banned status?

You mean "DnvrFox"? I think he was banned for adopting the LCF lifestyle and then going on that sub-forum and attacking people for riding bikes instead of just walking, running or riding horses.

Yes, I think zonatandem is the oldest active member.

I agree with revchuck about next month being kinda soon. Keep at it and gradually build up to the 75 miles during the spring. You should be ready for the 75 miler or a century by mid-summer.

I see you're from Miami. Why not check out the Southeast Regional subforum. There are several Miami area folks on here. Maybe you'll find someone or a group to ride with.

Dnvr left Bike Forums over a year ago. He wasn't happy with a lot that was going on in the 50+ forum and a few other forums.

dynodonn 03-06-17 11:08 PM

RonH and McBTC, thanks for the info on DnvrFox. Personally, he didn't seem like the type that would end up being banned, and I figured that he would have had to do it voluntarily. After spending years on the A&S forum, and dealing with rush hour motorists, the other forums on BF seem calm to me.

Interval training just for kids?

Just read this interesting news story about exercise and old age.
Interval training exercise could be a fountain of youth - CNN.com
Guess I need to pop a few wheelies and sprint on my rides.

From your Locations, get that interval training in the mountains during the summer; base miles in winter. Heckuvagoodplan IMHO.

Best plan I could come up with. Hope to keep it up for at least five more years.

Zenetto Stealth is sooo stealth I couldn't find it on the interwebz. Search results almost exclusively RV sites & forums.
