I turned 70 in December 2012. I need to get motivated to get the Bicycle off the wall and ready to go. Just need some warm weather or a flask of Bourbon.

Need warm weather is right. Last year on this day it was 75F here and we were riding in our summer kit; yesterday we didn't even make it to 35! Definitely has been a long, cold one.

You could move to FL like we did.

My wife won't ride with me at all. Says riding isn't her thing. She also won't play golf, doesn't like my car, prefers music other than what I enjoy, won't go to movies with me, and isn't into affection. Should I be surprised after 30 years of marriage?

I had to take extreme measures - last night I entered a Sprint Triathlon in San Marcos, just down the road. It's at Aquarena Springs, until recently a tawdry tourist spot where Ralph the Swimming Pig used to entertain the crowds. This will be my first opportunity to see it since Texas State U took the springs over and has supposedly returned them to something like their natural condition. The bike leg could be nasty, though: the Springs are at the foot of the Balcones Escarpment, which is quite impressive in this area. If any other 65+ members in Central Texas are interested, it's called the Texas State Tri and it's on April 21.
If you're over 70, though, please don't sign up - the only way I'll place is if there are no other contestants in the over 70 age group!!! I'm so stiff that I lose a lot of time at the change-overs - gotta figure out an old-man way to quickly put on bike and running shoes over wet feet!

Question for Burr: What's GOPD??

Geez . . . am a lucky fellow!
My wife rides tandem with me several days a week; we pretty well like the same kind of music; we don't do golf/movies. Love to travel.
We are still very affectionate . . . romance is not just for newlyweds!
What's not to like?
She tells me I'm still on 'probation' after only 58 years of being very happily married!
Brought her an nice bouquet wildflowers today and taking her out for breakfast this weekend.
At ages 80 and 78 we love spending time TWOgether.
Keep your life/love interesting!

I guess Im lucky. I turn 75 this year, and have yet to have to get up in the middle of the night to go pee. Sure makes my friends of the same age mad. I think a couple of them think I am not telling the truth.

They tell me all my life that if you are properly hydrated you should get one time a night to pee.

But, you are older then me and it works for you!

There were 10 riders today for the Tuesday club ride. At least 4 of us are old enough to post here. Good ride, 33 miles, 13+ mph average speed, coffee stop at Panera, 3 hours total, temperature in the 30s. I sure like being retired.

I know well that, after a long winter, I can't get my summer biking legs back in one weekend's outings (especially at our age). So why do I still do this every year? I had my trail bike out yesterday for a somewhat tiring ride due to the trail surface being soft in most places, then today I took the road bike to the local practice venue and tried to double the previous day's mileage with a stiff breeze to boot. Once again I'm wiped out and feeling like I've "lost it" at last!

At least tomorrow's Easter and with my son home and other family activities I'll be forced to stay inside. Otherwise I'd probably be at it again! No wonder my wife thinks I'm nuts...

Well-----------you are right there. I dont have anything against beer, but I just dont like the taste. It tastes sour and bitter to me. For me water is #1, followed by lemonade.

I turn 73 this year, and I get up at least twice every night. Even when I am out camping at the race track, I have to get up in the dead of the night to go. Well, it could be worst. I wet the bed all the way until I was 19 or 20. At 21 it stopped. However, I recall letting it go on one of my girlfriends when I was in my 40s. Right I am happy that I can wake up and go. The down side to that, I would be a pissy old man!! I am acutely aware that I have to go more than others, and act accordingly..

I do realize, that in our 70s, we can't have it all!!

My hat is off to you.
