Although 57 is not prime, it is jokingly known as the "Grothendieck prime" after a story in which Grothendieck advances it as an example of a particular prime number.
As a semiprime, 57 is a Blum integer since its two prime factors are both Gaussian primes.
57 is a 20-gonal number. It is a Leyland number since 25 + 52 = 57.
57 is a repdigit in base 7 .

I love it when you talk math.

Does that mean exactly 57 years old? Not one day more or less? So would 57 1/2 count? Are you counting from conception or birth?

ps: hope the treatment wasn't too painful

I'm thinking that it's another of those products that it's better not to see being made. Might this be an animal byproduct perchance?

I've been checking out the spotted dick in the grocery store the last two visits. I've been too chicken to try it. I will buy some tomorrow and report.

We do not have to refer to ourselves as 57 years old -- we are 39, hexadecimal! You can ban me from this thread starting on Tullio Campagnolo's birthday this summer.

August 26. That's a great day to be born, and I should know.

In my old neighborhood there two brothers who both had birthdays on Aug 26th. But they were born 3 years apart.

HEY! That doesn't sound bad at all!

Tom Bombadil 05-15-08 08:47 PM

What did you think was in it?

solveg 05-15-08 08:53 PM

I had no idea.

Tom Bombadil 05-15-08 09:10 PM

I would think that fresh spotted dick would taste better than canned - and I can hardly believe that I can write this in a way that could be included in a PG-rated forum.

Rober 05-15-08 09:43 PM

I can post here. I also went to high school with Robin Williams who can't post here because he's too young. Hah!

Well, it looks like I'm one of the few rule-abiding folks in the 50+ forum. Turned 57 in March. But now that I'm here, I have nothing to say.
