Yellow is the new white

My Schwinn Fastback yellow hornet is almost ready. It'll be just at 18 lbs for a XL frame when done (with heavy wheels).
I have to install the brifters and bar tape - probably by Friday and have pictures posted.

I'll also post the final build pics on the white bomb. These 2 bikes, along with another high end build and an old school beautiful Klein Performance build represent my entire bike fund investment.

If you're a dentist, I'd recommend a new business development advisor

(Cool bikes);)

You'll wonder where the yellow went... My P-38 is yellow & i love it.

John E 07-31-08 08:17 AM

Yellow was my bike color of choice in the 1970s and 1980s. There are great-looking yellows, including Schwinn Kool Lemon, and there are horrid-looking yellows.

robtown 07-31-08 09:55 AM

A minor setback (approx $85 plus aggravation). The right STI is junk and I'm using some 600 levers and DA barcons meant for other bikes. I will ride the yellow hornet tomorrow!

Pictures ... Friday, right? Sounds like a promise. Don't forget! :)

Well nothing has ever matched a 1980's Centurion Ironman decked out in puke purple and yellow.

point my customized Worksman PAV is Yellow as Yellow can get. :thumb:

Some people have no taste whatsoever.......:notamused::notamused:

The color yellow is permanently ruined for me by the insects of the North Ave. Trade School in Altanta. No yaller bikes for this Dawg.

robtown 08-01-08 07:47 AM

Her maiden ride (8 miles into work) went vey smoothly this morning. I have to ride out to the denist this afternoon (18 miles) and back home (9 miles). I hope those she holds up better than I will since I have done very few rides over 20 miles this year.

That was a beautiful riding bike - I never should have sold her.

It was a matter of getting a decent frame to go with the part set at a good price ($80).

I like both. The 60's hotrodder in me says go with black tires on the fastback to give it a sort of hulking bad*** functional look (no pinstripes). If the budget could withstand it, the same crank as on the Scattante would complete the black and yellow look.

Yellow works though.................almost as well as white....:)

BSLeVan 08-01-08 08:42 AM

The yellow one is much more impressive looking than the white one. I'm just saying.

Nice build Robtown.

I took those Vittoria tires off a set of Nimble Spider wheels (very light). I was out of plain black (cheap or otherwise) tires. The Vittoria give a superior ride with 220 thread count.
Both bikes have identical 105 cranks and RD. Maybe I should swap them out.

Beautiful!!!!

The silver cranks do not look right on the Schwinn. But glad to see the yellow tyres and the black bar tape. Just sets it off right.

Not to hyjack this thread, but I have never known anyone who had even HEARD of Nimble wheels. They are VERY LIGHT. I have loved mine. Unfortunately, the company is having trouble getting their new process (making the wheels even stiffer) to work. They have had my rear wheel for a rebuild since November!

By the way. Love the bikes. Yellow/black is my favorite color scheme.

Yes black would look better, but silver is what came with the parts bundle I bought off of Craigslist. If I thought about it I would have used the silver on the Scattante. You have to admit the black on white is also awesome.

Nice build Robtown.

Thank you. I rode her to work, then a round trip to the dentist (18 miles), and back home. That's about double my normal - or about 35 miles. She performed flawlessly (unlike the rider) and allowed me to almost cruise up some slopes that normally drag me down. Unlike many builds, I did not have to change or adjust anything. Her form is a bit agressive for me and I suffered from hand numbness. I'd probably have to install aerobars if I kept her.

Digital Gee 08-01-08 07:50 PM

You just made my day. Thanks! I love you man.

cllvt 08-03-08 09:37 AM

Really nice!

Awesome build robtown!! I love the yellow! I have really been into yellow bikes lately ... love to have one, but I am above quota right now. Light too, eh? Congrats, ride it with pride! :)

Oh yeah, thanks for getting the pics up so quickly!!

Louis 08-03-08 10:07 AM

Good job on both bikes, robtown. I can't decide which I like best.

Kurt Erlenbach 08-03-08 10:38 AM

I just picked up a ~1970 Dawes Galaxy, in bright yellow. It'll be here next week. Rebuilding will be underway soon.
