The Fifth Century

Today, for my 64th birthday celebration, I rode the 5th century of my biking career. Started riding at 57 years old after bypass surgery. Then when I turned 60, did my first century and have made it an annual personal tradition. My family and friends all think I've gone off the deep end - oh well. I plan to keep doing it for as long as I can. Today's ride puts me within 1400 miles of my 4,000 mile goal for 2008.

Congratulations on the 5th century. You've got a great mileage accumulation going as well.

Ride on!

They may think you've gone off the deep end, but we understand. Keep it up.

The deep is where all the fun is!

You can drown in the deep end but that usually were the fun is found. Second century this year for me. It was hard but satisfying. Hope to get one more in before the end of the season.

You are completely addicted to your bicycle, just like the rest of us.

Congrats on another century.

Well, Attila the Hun died in 453 A.D. and Pericles died in 425 B.C.

And the Greeks and the Persians were at each other's throats B.C. while the Romans in A.D. were spreading civilization, but they did have a spot of trouble with the Visigoths and the Vandals.

That's great! I rode a century for my 50th birthday a week or so ago. During the ride a friend in his late-20's complained that he was discouraged because an old man (me) was kicking his ass. I told him that should make him feel better, not worse, and that I was really happy there were guys 10 years older than me riding as much or more than me. When someone older is doing it, there's hope for you. When no one older is doing it.... uh oh!
