Gas Prices

I know they have risen today because of the storm ------ Here in Asheboro, last night $3.58, noon today $4.30 to $5.01. Pure madness at the pumps. How are prices in your neck of the woods? Lp

Same here. $3.63 this morning at 7AM. Same station at noon $4.39

I'll like someone to explain to me how that's "Not" price gouging**********

Of course, the broadcast media in my area have contributed to this as they were on the air at 5AM today with "Better fill up ASAP before the price goes to $5 per gallon."

No change here yet, i.e. as of 11:00 AM on 09/12/08. ARCO still showed 3.69 on my way to work this morning (in La Mirada, CA).

I filled the Insight yesterday, at that same price (at ARCO). Got 75.4 mpg on the last tank (714 miles with a 10.4 gal. tank with some to spare)!

Interesting to see how this will ripple out to the rest of the country. I saw them out raising the prices on a couple I pass in the morning. They kicked them up 5 cents to 3.89, have to see what it's at going home.

They ran out of gas here. I think if we just had rain they would raise the price.

Just in from the afternoon school run ------ a local Hess is selling gas for $3.58 and the traffic is backed up for miles. Not less than a mile away the Quick Check and the BP both are selling reg. for $4.80.

Something stinks ------ and sure as heck is nothing I've stepped in. Lp

George there are several stations out of gas here as well. Lp

Don't fret. You can rest assured that the current administration will be cracking down on the oil companies any minute now!

BP- British Petroleum- How else do you think we can keep our prices down to $12 a gallon unless we charge you a fortune.

I wouldn't be counting on any administration to be cracking down on anybody.

We are looking at a combination of OPEC production cut back, Hugo Chavez freaking out, China buying all the world's resources with our money, hurricane threats and uncertainty about refineries getting clobbered.

All this is going on in and an economy based entirely on oil that has peaked production capacity years ago and is in decline while everyone keeps driving them big cars and trucks; except the .02% of the transportation that are us bike riders.

What would be accomplished with cracking down on the companies that are producing the very fuel everthing depends upon? They can't produce more of what they don't have so they are going to get whatever price they can for what they got.

Too many heads need cracking for any one entity to even start to make a dent.

They'll use any excuse to raise prices to keep up the record profits. "A storm did $10million damage to our platform in the gulf, better raise prices and bring in $10billion to offset it."

I keep hoping for $6/gallon, which is coming within 5 years. Peak oil is real, rising world demand is real, and cheap energy has always been the enemy of alternative energy development and incentives for carpooling, transportation bicycling, fuel-efficient vehicles, etc.

$3.58 yesterday morning. $3.69 this morning so I filled up car #2. Less than two hours later it was up to $3.79 so I filled up car #1. It was up to $3.99 when I passed the gas station tonight on my way home from work. I'm afraid to think what it will be tomorrow.

Just about every station in Savannah is around 4.39.... Except for Murphy/Wal-Mart. They're at $3.89.

If Wal-mart can sell for 3.89, the rest of them can. Gouging at its finest.
