What's your favorite after-ride recovery snack?

OK, pie is well-established as one of the favorites here . . . but I'm thinking a bit more healthy . . .

What's your favorite recovery snack after a good ride?

I've been consuming vast quantities of whole-grain toast with natural peanut butter and a piece of fruit . . . especially peaches lately . . . and large amounts of water and coffee, of course . . .

I'm looking for some new ideas.

What's on your plate after a good ride?

I realize I could ask this question over in the Training and Nutrition forum, but I'm more interested in hearing from my peers (age-wise, and yes, that can be read two ways.)

I like just about anything after a ride, especially spaghetti and/or hamburgers.

Blueberries are one of nature's best foods - containg, among other things, wonderful anti-oxidants. When combined with God-given natural wheat, a smattering of natural sweeteners and baked in a real oven, blueberry pie is likely the very best after-ride treat. Including some cold sweetend vanilla flavored milk on top is even more nutritious.

Black eyed peas are really good and good for you. No fat, good protein and decent fiber. And you can do them spicy if you want.

Chocolate milk and a small handful of peanuts. It's quick, easy, and it seems to be the right combination of carbs and protein to help the recovery process.

If I'm done riding in the late afternoon: Peanuts (in the shell) and beer.

I get my fiber in other ways, the shells also tend to get stuck between my teeth.

If I have a really hard workout/ride I'll drink "Endorox" by Hammer, it's helped me to get rid of the soreness so I can ride hard the next day. After a regular ride I'll eat 1/2 of a peanut butter jelly sandwich with some skim milk to wash it down. My favorite after ride food is when I ride with the Wednesday night Lake Erie Wheelers Club and we go to a local micro brewery and have beer and any kind of food.

After a ride where I have completely bonked and my legs have that heavy, dead feeling, I make sure to have a high protein meal, usually beef or chicken, to help the muscles recover. And I'm usually a bit dehydrated so I drink lots of water before having a beer with dinner, so that I'm not trying to slake my thirst with beer.

Which is a good thing since the alcohol in beer makes it a mild to moderate diuretic.

After a century, I get a large DQ chocolate shake. Only time I allow myself to have one.
After most rides, nothing special- usually a cup of coffee to ward off the inevitable nap. A beer or two if it's afternoon or evening. Then the next regularly scheduled meal...

Lots of good ideas, thanks!

My rides this time of year are always in the morning in an effort to avoid the heat . . . and because I work nights. But this fall and winter when my weekend rides wait for the warmer part of the day, I'll definitely try some of these.

Usually, just Naked orange juice. That's a brand name, by the way. Best OJ on the planet.

Chocolate chip oatmeal cookie (baked by Hubby) and a glass of milk.

Or chicken tenders drizzled with olive oil, sprinkled with dried herbs, and broiled 6 minutes on each side, then rolled in a piece of whole wheat bread.
