All excellent suggestions. I'd just like to add :

Ride the event as you trained. Don't do anything different like adjusting saddle height, changing saddles or handlebar position, try new bibs/shorts, etc the day of the event. The same applies to nutrition such as breakfast, energy gels/bars/drinks .. I tried a different gel during a metric century ride ... it did not agree with my system ... A BIG mistake !!

Stop by the LBS and pick up a couple of small packets of chamois cream. Keep them in your pocket or seat bag. Another option is put some cream in a snack size ziptop baggie (double bagged.) It may come in handy late in the ride. Do not confuse this with energy gels...... :twitchy:

I had the pleasure of riding a century in MI this past summer -- "One Helluva Ride" organised by AABTS. It was a blast!

Good Luck !! Ride Fast, Ride Safe, Have Fun!!

Even in a thread filled with excellent tips, this one stands out!

We ride about that pace also, and although we will be doing the 64 miler for that ride, if the route is mostly the same, you can find us. We'll start out at 7am. Look for a yellow-green with black Cannondale and a red/white specialized MTB.

Thanks -- I'll try to do that. I know that they changed the routes all around this year so that there are options that don't cross over to Canada (more border-crossing hassles every year), and I think that the 64-mile route does not cross, which is one reason why I am planning on the century. Anyway, in the past, some of the routes started right off by going in opposite directions, depending on if you were riding the extra miles on a northern loop up through Port Huron.

I know the president of the club putting on the event, but he couldn't reveal the routes to me under pain of death apparently. So I'll have to wait until Sunday at 7AM sharp to see what the actual options are. :thumb:

To me, the humor seemed very well done and the advice itself eminently useful.
