Oops, not today!!!

Worked all night (12.5 hrs.), got out at 6 am. and went to a 2 hr.
Safety Team mtg., got home and took the bride to breakfast and was
out in my garage by 9 am. ready for a nice 35 mile ride over to the bay.

Well, 2 miles into the ride and I was very certain that I should be in bed
instead of being astride this bike. So I begrudgingly turned around, am
currently drinking a Labatts 50 and getting ready for a nice day's sleep.

Rode a whopping 3.41 miles. Does that qualify for anything?

Happy Trails

After 12.5 hours of work and a Safety meeting it counts as common sense.

Good judgment? The Labatts 50, even better. Rest well then ride.

Better than falling asleep while driving home. Working long hours sucks. I've done as many as 32 hours straight (on multiple jobs), but am usually able to sneak in a nap during my breaks. A few times I can remember hitting the rumble strips on the drive home.

Naw--- You should have stuck it out for another 10 minutes at least. Then it would have been a Cognac to go with the Labatts.

Some of my best rides have started out feeling like crap, but I've found the more I ride, the better I feel. 2 miles isn't enough, but if you were sure you were done, I guess you made the right decision.

Ahhh, Labatt's 50, official beer of the the over 50 club. I give each of my friends and relatives a case of Labatt's 50 for their 50th birthdays - what else could they want????

I've read all the stuff in the T & N forum about the importance of rest, but I've had days when I forced myself to get on the bike after a night of tossing and turning and still had a decent ride. Usually it makes me feel a lot better. Some days after plenty of rest and all the right food I'll go out and die. I'm sure it's all important, but I've never been able to relate a strong performance to anything I did beforehand.

I guess you've just got to start peddalling and let your legs tell what you can do.

I have been able to relate a poor performance to what I have not done though. A few long rides I have done have definitely told on me because I have taken easy rides for a month or so beforehand. And one memorable ride where I did not carbo- load beforehand- nearly caused me a problem. Had to find a bakers and get some Carbo-hydrates in me before I bonked.

Like some others here- I have started a ride not really wanting to go out that day but within a few miles the speed has gone up from pathetic and the joy of getting out on the bike has given me a lift for the rest of the ride. I have also gone out when I shouldn't have done and cut the ride to very short to get back home and relax.

Counts for a 3.41 mile ride. That is better than no ride.
