Finally! My first century
It's been about a year and a half since I started biking, but Saturday I entered and completed my first century, the Outlaw Trail 100 in Round Rock, Texas. My longest ride leading up to the century had been only 54 miles, the week before -- but I've ridden over 2,200 miles this year, so my base was pretty good.
At the start. Remember, when posing in a cycling jersey, always face the camera!
I had the only 50+ jersey in the field. Wanted to be sure to show the colors!
Although about 2,000 riders started, I managed to avoid getting caught up in any off the cuff races. I set my own pace, and stuck to it. I finished with 6 hours, 33 minutes of in-the-saddle time, and an average speed of 15.47 mph. Sore thighs for a couple of hours afterward, but that's about it.
I've probably learned more about biking by reading this forum than from any other single source. Thanks for your help.

And hopefully you will be learning a bit more tomorrow- if you have been reading the forum properly. Recovery ride. Just get out for around 10 miles on a flat route and just turn the pedals. Cadence a bit lower than normal- a lot less effort than normal and don't forget to drink either. This is just to get those Stiff muscles turning over and get some movement into them. And a change of PIE tomorrow. Steak & kidney. Protein will help to repair damaged tissue and those aches are damaged tissue.
And on those Face on pics. Doesn't help if you have eaten too much pie already. The 12 pack still shows.
Edit
And sorry- Forget to congratulate you. So many finishing off the year with centuries that I am forgetting.

Congratulations! 100 miles on a bike in a day is quite an accomplishment. Like you, I've learned most everything about cycling here on BF and am grateful to the community.
Again, great job!

Excellent!
From 54 to 100 in 1 easy step!
Decent time too.
You just did something that I doubt I ever do.

Great job of getting the 50+ jersey out there for the world to see. Congrats on your first century and may you have many more.

Very impressive time for an almost newbie. I hope you took some time to stop and smell the chain lube along the way. For me, part of the fun of a century (or about any ride), is the scenery and the other riders.
