15 to 25 MPH

Not my speed... the wind.

Still got this offshore flow going... kind of like the Santa Ana winds but no where near as severe
It still means constant, gusting winds blowing from the NE to SE and anywhere in between at -yep- 15 to 25 mph.

And out I went at lunch to do this

And, of course, the upside of that hill is all heading NE to E... right into that wind.
Now, I am not the fastest climber, ever was... I can hold a pretty steady 5 or 6mph but that's about it.
And I am not the biggest fan of the wind, ever was.
And I think the combination is just diabolical.

So, there is was, working hard, breathing hard, hurting and grumbling -almost laughing to keep from crying- and yet did the thought of quitting and turning around with the wind at my back ever cross my mind?

No.

OK, once... but I quickly banished it.
No, I knew if I kept pushing, my reward would come... and 600' drop with the wind behind (until I had to head east, uphill to go home. No getting around it, I'm afraid) and so it was. Next thing I knew, I was down at the pier watching a flat, calm sea.

My gawd, I think I actually enjoy it...

I enjoy beating the weather too. Winds like that are pretty common here, especially in winter. Riding in the snow is a hoot. And riding in the rain takes 40 years off my state of mind.

I did in fact turn around once when I had 25-40 mph gusts. I did not have a pier and calm seas as a reward, just more wind and pavement.

Good on you, though wind and hills are not my favorite either so you did well, very well.

Hill are my friends, mountains are my very close friends.

Wind, not so much. Though Lon Haldeman once advised me that headwinds are excellent for training!

Have to agree that wind is an aid to training- but why do I always seem to be training at this time of the year?
