Unexpected good ride
I didn’t feel much like riding today. Last Friday there was a slight Santa Anna wind and some of the fields along our bike route were being plowed and by Saturday morning my sinuses were acting up. I was pretty lazy Saturday and Sunday so I was surprised when I got up feeling pretty good this morning but a bit weak. But I got up and decided to try and ride. I figured I could just follow at my best pace as long as I knew where we were going. Well the day was just about perfect, clear, about 72 degrees and no wind. My average speed was off just a few tenths but I felt pretty good about the ride. I even managed a hill or two without passing out. The only after effect was that I had no legs left by the time I got home. Has this happened to anyone else?

Actually, I meant that I always pass out (or puke) when doing a hill or two, sick or not. Fortunately, there are no hills around here.
For some reason, it seems that I do better in a ride after being ill. Maybe it's because three or four or five days of rest is a good thing once in a while at our age.

Well you might have a point. My best ride days are mostly Mondays and that is after a two day rest. But my club rides have a few rides where we climb some short hills. The real hill climbers ride on my off days, not by accident.

This happens to me fairly often. I use my bike for transportation, so there's times when I have to ride, but I might not feel like riding. (I'm sure this also happens to people who use cars--sometimes they just don't feel like driving, but they have to.)
Usually the ride turns out to be fun once I get going. Sometimes it stays unpleasant. Oh well...

I have had mornings where I just do not feel like riding but 5 minutes in and I am wondering why I did not go out earlier. Only had one ride I cut short and that was only after about 5 miles. It was cold- Below freezing- and after a mile it started raining. Hands and feet got wet and even colder. After another 4 miles that was it. My shoes were covered in ice and the beard was getting just as bad. I aborted.
BUT- I had a couple of ilness's that kept we off the bike for extended periods. Getting back a was problem but I persevered and gradually got the milage up. Then the buzz after the first 40 miler for 6 months was fantastic. Couldn't walk- couldn't sit down- couldn't breath ---but I was happy.

Thankfully that has never happened to me . No matter how wasted I've been after long and difficult rides, I still had my legs when the ride was over . I hope you grow new legs sometime soon!
See you at the Palm Springs Century .

My unexpected good ride happened this morning. Absolutely nothing special, but I enjoyed it. Decided to ride to the bike shop to get some new tubes. 8.52 easy miles one way. Foggy. I got the blinkies going, took my little back pack. Got there just as they were opening. Bike tech kid saved room in their outside display rack for my bike. He admire my Fi'z'ik Aliente saddle with 23000 miles on it (he just bought one) and said, "Nice looking wheels" about my new Neuvations. They were out of regular tubes, so he gave me upgrades at the regular price, plus my 10% bike club discount. On the way back I stretched the ride to 20 miles by taking a MUP.
