Deep Freeze heading into Midwest

Local weather forecast (but not The Weather Channel) is showing bitter cold moving into the upper Midwest next week. Here in Madison three straight nights of lows from -14 to -16, highs around -5. Can't remember if it is going to be Tues-Thurs or Wed-Fri.

This is after tomorrow's snowfall of 6"-9".

So who's going to be out riding in it?

Not I.

In one or two weeks I'll be riding my quad 10 miles out onto Lake Erie to fish for huge walleyes. Let's see some of you gloating fair weather guys do that!

I think you should also cut a hole in the ice and jump in similar to what Ulrich did when he would go bear hunting with Vino in Khazakstan to prepare for the tour.

Next week forecasts teens and single digit highs, and single digit negative lows. Snow is on the way. Downright balmy!
Yes, I will be riding in this.

On New Year's Day the Cleveland Triathlon Club did just that, and it was shown on the local news. The image of guys wearing Mankini's in 27 degree temps, romping in the Lake Erie surf with the snow covered beach is still etched in my mind.

The weather will break over here on Sunday- So rain is expected on Monday and into the 50's.

Normal riding will be resumed- Or may be Sunday if I can defrost the bike.

Better hold onto your butt ... they are downgrading those forecasts. Check Accuweather. Right now their forecasts for Minneapolis are:

Tuesday high 1, low -4
Wed high -3, low -10
Thur high 5, low -8
Fri high 10, low -8

And it could be colder. An Arctic air mass is moving our way.

I remind my mother, who lives in Florida, that when it is -15 F, that is 47 degrees below freezing. She thinks it is bitter cold when there is a frost on the grass.

Coldest it has been since I moved here in '89 was -28 F, or 60 degrees below freezing point. That was very, very cold. I walked out in it, wearing a short sleeve shirt, just to experience how cold it was. Didn't stay out long.

Of course the reason the weather will be high over the weekend is Santa Ana winds... I doubt you will be riding then!

For folks who don't know, Santa Anas are our "snow"!

Just finished snowblowing the driveway for the 6th time so far this winter. We got 7"-8".

A balmy 20 on Saturday and 25 on Sunday. Will be getting out to enjoy it.

Saturday is our big Bike Swap Meet in Madison. Always lots of goodies there at low prices.

We only got about an inch for this snow. Only about a foot on the ground right now. But that still means I won't be out riding for a while. It never gets quite warm enough to melt the ice and snow on the roads. I can ride when it's cold, but the snow does me in. I really, really, really hate winter.

I heard it was about 5 F in Big Bear around last weekend... that's about 90 minutes from us, here in sunny Southern California.

I'd appreciate "real" snow much more. Not sure if we'll be riding in the morning... probably not if the gusts are 70-80 mph as predicted.

Come on, grow a back bone there fellow sunshine stater. If Miss Gulch can do it you can; hell, she did it carrying an "ugly little dog".

That's me, watching Miss Gulch ride by my house; it is a pic from my younger days when I was into cross dressing
