What is this white stuff?

Our rainy Sunday took a rare twist today for central Georgia. We are getting a little bit of accumulation, but it is about 40 degrees and has been raining all day, so there is no way to enjoy playing in the slushy mess.
I just hope it melts away before the overnight temperature drops below freezing. I hate it when the power goes out.

I'm not sure what it is, but we had a bunch of it yesterday in northwest AR. When I awakened this morning, the temperature at the airport, about a mile or two from my place, was 16 F with a windchill of 1. I think it must be some sort of heinous plot hatched by TomBomb and sent our way. I think they have plenty enough of this stuff up there to spare some without missing any of it

I read that New York City is expecting 12"-14" by Monday morning. That is going to be a mess.

It is cold here today, had a high of 18 with a brisk wind bring the windchill down to just 5 degrees in the mid-afternoon. Below zero wind chills tonight. But no snow and with a warmup headed our way. Temps predicted to climb to 40 by Wed and into the mid-40s on Thur/Fri/Sat. Hope that isn't fools gold.

Tom Bombadil 03-01-09 04:21 PM

I see that nasty little places like Charlottesville, VA are getting some snow and cold weather too.

George 03-01-09 04:56 PM

I went to a rodeo last night and just about froze to death. The wind was blowing 30mph and it was 45 degrees. Down here that's cold. I haven't seen that white stuff in a while though.

Me neither. I've seen black mold and red mold since arriving in Little Rock, so I assume it is some kind of quick-forming white mold. It is apparently distributed by the wind.

My day started in Boone this morning and it was snowing like crazy and we had a little trouble getting away.

In Charlotte it sounds like we could get 4"-8". What a nasty, nasty weekend we had.

Fortunately they're calling for low 70's next Saturday.

roccobike 03-01-09 06:08 PM

It's heading to Raleigh too. We're supposed to get 2" to 4" of whatever that white junk is. Storm screwed up my entire riding weekend.

PaulH 03-01-09 06:19 PM

Nothing depresses me like a winter with little snow. Bring it on!
(looking forward to a good ride to work in the snow)

My strategy worked! The new tractor came with a 49" 2-stage snow blower, so of course I only got a dusting. Low tonight is predicted to be 4F. At that point, the plus or minus sign really doesn't matter.

Ditto
I was reading this and about new york and I just bought A troybillt 11hp with Heated handgrips. (the Di2 equivalent of snow removal) so it ain't coming to Pittsburgh!

Retro Grouch 03-01-09 07:15 PM

As long as it's white it's fine. If it has turned yellow, don't eat it.

Digital Gee 03-01-09 07:16 PM

I have no idea what it is. It was 82 degrees in San Diego today. Good day for a ride!

waldowales 03-01-09 07:24 PM

48 in Murray right now. Got out for a nice ride with Nycycle this afternoon. Cool breeze came up about 4:00 pm. Weather man predicts 58 tomorrow. Happy days!

zacster 03-01-09 07:26 PM

They're expecting 10-12" by tomorrow here in NYC. I get to go to work in any case, even if I have to x-country ski there. My subway line is open to the elements but below ground level in an open cut. It is usually the first service to get canceled.

gcottay 03-01-09 07:38 PM

By this time of year, if it is white and falling from the, I just assume the sky is filled with well fed gulls because the alternative explanation is less pleasant.

geofitz13 03-01-09 08:38 PM

As I type this, it is starting to snow. We are expecting 8-12 inches.
First the Patriots traded Cassel and Vrabel, and now this! UGH!!!

maddmaxx 03-02-09 05:14 AM

Only about 6" on the ground as of 6am. I thought there would be more.........I'm disappointed. :roflmao2:

In N.E. Ohio we call it "LIFE"

Did you ride? Where are the pics:) I want to see a little sunshine!

No snow here but it was cold and windy:eek:

The Weak Link 03-02-09 08:45 AM

Rumour has it that they had to call off a global warming protest in D.C. today because of snow and cold.

Don't know if its true but it would be pretty funny if it were.

BluesDawg 03-02-09 08:54 AM

Very little trace left today of yesterday's snow, but that was enough for them to close the schools in our county.

geofitz13 03-02-09 09:01 AM

Just finished the first round of snowblowing. About 10 inches so far, with the promise of more, followed by cold and winds up to 25 mph.
I want my global warming.

Suzie Green 03-02-09 09:19 AM

Only got a measly 8 inches last night here in the heart of New England.

The folks down south are stealing OUR snow! Some nerve! It even snowed in Alabama. I suppose we could lend them our snow shovels :innocent:
