Nice easy roller...

You can find a lot of hills like that in western Arkansas, though not as many straight roads.

I'll be doing a hill like that 3 x's in a race this Saturday near Mansfield, OH. Not something I'm looking forward to.

^^^ GRR is one beautiful road when it's not too busy. It is quite the ride for sure. :thumb:

Hill like the OP I remember from when I lived in MO, but have also seen them in OH and IN. That bit looks like Hwy T between St. Albans and Washington, MO. But it could be a thousand other places too.

I've ridden GMR/GRR with Mr. Beanz and without, and either way it's a great ride. Beanz is usually so fast, I can't even keep him in sight, though there have been exceptions to that rule.

I've never ridden GMR/GRR with Herb, whereas both my wife and my friend Maria have. Not sure what that tells me . . .

View from the top of Mount Hamilton east of San Jose. The view is of the last 7 miles. The total climb is 19 miles, 4400 feet of vertical with 2 downhill sections.

The OP's pic is similar to the rollers in the Madera Stage Race that my wife thought were fun.:eek: Be prepared for some major acceleration and speed on the climbs and do not make the mistake I did by getting blocked by slow big guys. If I would have moved to the front of the peloton right before the first roller, I would have been okay the second time through.

Mt Hamilton looks similar to the ride I posted in the pics above. This is the first mile or so. GMR/GRR is 21 miles up, most of the 5k gain in the first 21 miles.

I assume this is in the Angeles National Forest? My wife and I will be in Newport Beach for a week the beginning of May and plan to ride around SoCal. Last year, we did Orange County / San Diego. I suspect we will do more of the same but it looks like the GMR ride is pretty cool.

Mallorca Spain - Cape Formentor Did this on the tandem.

I've done the Ledge Road Hill many times, it's about 8 miles from my home and on the way to the National Park area. That hill just keeps getting steeper and steeper until it tops out, long after I've run out of gears.:eek:

Thanks for the advice Hermes. I had the same thing happen to me in a 55+ race last year. I was behind a couple riders at the bottom of the climb when the attack happened. By the time I got out and chased the 5 or 6 leaders were too far ahead to catch. At the top of the hill they were 75 yards ahead and nobody was closer than 100 yards behind. I just had to ride alone until I got smart enough to let three guys catch up to work with.

Ok Mr Beanz I must know where your little hill is as i would love to give it a go.

The hills I posted are in California. Mt. Baldy, Angeles National Forest.:D..Glendora Mt Ridge road (GMR) and Glendora Rdige road (GR). Lot so nice stuff out here, hiway 39, cystal lake, a whole range of mtn climbs.

Oh man I can feel my knees having a COW on hills like that!:twitchy: That's why I've got bungie cords, if YOU have to drop a couple of gears on a steep hill, it's ME, using the "automatic bungie cord launcher"!:thumb:

I did the Mt Hamilton Road Race once -- back in the 1980s -- and I didn't have time to check out the view. ;)

I remember the observatory and the switchbacks that made my hands hurt from all of the braking. :p

BTW, let me know when you and the diva are in SoCal. Maybe we can get in a ride together.

For our trip at the beginning of May, we also plan to ride at ADT. I will keep you posted and can try to hook up for a ride together.
