My 02 Giant Cypress SX, the frame and brake levers are the only original pieces. Doesn't get ridden much (by me). Wife's bike now.

Hi Bagel007 - I have the same problem with my Giant Cypress bike, there is a clicking noise coming from the crank, when I put any pressure on the right side pedal with my foot, especially going up hill. I have taken it to a bike shop but they couldn't test it out as no hills! Not sure what to do about it. Did you ever find out what the problem was please? I would be very interested to know if so. I was told the bike has a sealed crank. The bike is pretty good except for this annoying problem. Kind Regards Wendy B :)

I had an 09 Cypress that I put nearly 6,000 miles on before it was stolen in 2013. The clicking sound bothered me as well but I could not find it until a pedal broke. After replacing the pedals I never heard the clicking again.

Thanks for the info Laserman, sorry to hear your Giant was stolen.
I have a 15mm pedal spanner on order as the local bike shop suggested checking the pedals were tight. Could easily try a new set of pedals if there is a fair chance of sorting out this problem. Do you think they are standard 9/16" size? Cheers Wendy

Yes the pedals are 9/16" size, not the 1/2" size used mostly on kids bikes. Remember the left pedal has a left hand thread.

Thanks for your help, will try some new pedals this week. Hope I can undo the old ones. :)

I changed the pedals yesterday for some new ones, as the bearings were rough in the right hand pedal, much better with new pedals on, but still have the click, think it might be a new bottom bracket needed!!
Think it will have to go in to the bike shop.

Finally the Giant Cypress bike is working normally, it was the bottom bracket, only cost £13 plus the tools which were not much, should have done it ages ago, just didn't know about it all. Goes like a rocket now. Just need to adjust the gears a bit as the BB was 2mm smaller. :)

yes. 2017 cypress dx xl. I like it. derailers are iffy in my opinion. seems like shimano is getting a little cheap.
