Congratulations to Ica (pics)

My wife did her first bike ride in the last few years today. She took her Giant Cypress and biked the whole Cape Cod Canal. A total of 14 miles. She had a minor accident as the trail was crowded and she hit my rear wheel and lost control and fell. Someone asked if she was hurt and her answer "my head doesn't hurt" (wearing a new helmet). Anyway, Ica used to ride a lot but got away from it. I thought 14 miles on her first jaunt was remarkable. Here are a few pics of the ride and her bruises.........P1010010.jpg

Ah, there's some magic in the air when the first ride report contains photos of bruises.

Paths are dangerous. The road is much safer.

Isn't it great to ride with the bride? Sounds like you both had a good time (mostly).

I've got a date with my wife to do a 10 mile lunch ride on the Erie Canal midday tomorrow. Temps. are supposed to hit the 80's.

edit: Oops, I forgot the important question. I'm glad to hear that your wife is basicly unharmed but did your wife's bike get damaged?

Good for your wife!

My wife (almost 72) and I rode on the trail for lunch. She rode back and I rode on. Our trails are safe.

How was the wind yesterday? Everytime I've ridden that path it's been so windy that you can barely manage 8mph on the upwind leg. Looks like you guys had a great time though.

I've found that the path on the east side of the canal is less crowded than that on the west. (I believe it might be just a bit shorter however because of the Power Station) The wind will always be awful. No matter which way it is blowing aloft, the canal will sort of channel it into a headwind/tailwind along the trail. On the downwind leg though, you can spread your arms and almost sail. It is a beautiful ride though, a flat water level paved road with porta potties at various locations (in season) and good sights. Highly recomended for those who pass by the area.

Sunday the wind was very manageable, unlike the day before when we walked it. We try to go into the wind first when we are fresh, and hope for a tail wind on the way back. But you are right, it is always windy and 8mph is about right when it is in your face. But a pretty place to ride none the less.

Way to go Ica! Keep it going, don't let a little spill stop you.
