Think this will make a good bike shed?
My new place comes with an enclosed porch, shown below. The only thing I have planned to put in it at the moment are two bikes which will be kept on a gravity stand against the wall on the right. Looks like I'll have plenty of room for a bike repair stand, a bench, and some tools. You agree?
Oh -- and I'm replacing the curtains with a set that actually fits.

That looks to be about 10' x 10'? Certainly looks like a great place to keep your bikes. As far as working on them, you might want to throw down a piece of 1/4" plywood (Luan) under your workstand so as not to stain the grout (concrete?) between the nice stones (tile?) on the floor with oil and such.
Keep us posted.

You say Porch-But in the UK a porch is on the front of a house.
How secure will it be?
I have the shed and plenty of bikes in there with two alarms. Still use a Kryptonte hawser and D Lock to tie the bikes together with though.
But I reckon it is too big. You will utilise the space for other things besides the bikes--like the armchair to admire the garden in-Or the Bikini Babes cycling past your door if it is out the front. Haven't seen them recently- Are they still about?

Looks to be too well-lit. I wouldn't feel right working on bikes with good lighting.

Looks nice. Like Stapfam, I'm concerned about security.
And those drapes must go.

The porch is great....................hmmm I'm a little nervous about the other part of your question.
Tools,.....DG.....Tools....DG....hmmmmmm.
On the other hand, it's about time that you shed that old image. After all, anyone who can operate a camera like you can should be able to master some basic bike tools. "If you can dodge a wrench, you can dodge a ball". PM me your new address Gary and I'll send you a tool for the new digs.....

Was it really necessary to get a new place to live just so you could get some new bike tools. Oh well if it works what the heck. Your bike deserves better drapes...

I have a couple of questions mostly as a result of having a perverted mind.
1. Is there room for additional bikes? I'm not sure if it's the N+1 thing or a result of letting the bikes overnight in the same room but there are sure to be additional bikes.
2. That gravity stand you were talking about. Does the same bike take the top position all the time?

I like that room.
As to the drapes, my wife has to help me to realize that existing drapes are not permanent fixtures. Likewise for carpets. Otherwise I'd probably move in and use the existing drapes for 30 years or more.

I like it. I would, however, be concerned about passersby or snoopers being able to look in at my bikes. I would recommend heavy curtains or blinds that can be closed when you're not using the space.

You need a wine chiller and wine rack over on one side.

You also need the flat screen TV with DVD player so you can watch films of the classics and stage races from last year while you work. Looks real good to me.

Forget wasting money on drapes, just stack empty beer cans on them window ledges to block out sun and onlookers.

Will this make a good bike shed?
A good bike should not shed. If it does, you should check the warranty. You may be in line for a frame replacement.

What's wrong with those drapes? Looks to me they would be perfect for wipng greasy hands while working on bikes. All it needs is a decent stereo and a beer fridge.
