Anticipation is making me ...

It's a big bike weekend - once I ride home tonight.
  • Tomorrow is a community yard sale - excellent hunting ground for Craiglist flip bikes - or hidden treasure. It'll be feast or famine.
  • My custom wheelset build (high flange Campy record hubs and Sun M13II high polish rims) has arrived.
  • All the parts for my Nashbar touring bike (dark green metalic) have arrived.
  • My custom SA 3-speed rear / generator hub front (both with drum brakes) are being laced 4x to non machined Velocity hubs. All the other parts for this bike (honjo hammered fenders!) are in house.

I also picked up a spare Concept II model b rower for free. Since I already have a model C this one is funding the touring bike.

It sounds like a big weekend indeed! Of course, we'll want photos of any found treasures and the completed touring bike.

That's your plans for the weekend, have you checked with the Boss as to what her plans for you this weekend are?

She is resigned after a long struggle. That, and bribe money buy me some slack.

I got the laced up Campy hubs tonight and have some Continental gumwalls installed. The builder did a great job.

I've got a 3:30 AM wake-up call, an hour drive to Redlands, then 114 miles with 12,000 feet of climbing. Plus, it's a timed event, plus it's supposed to be cold (54 deg.F high) with a 20% chance of rain.

Not sure if there will be pictures cause I haven't convinced myself to carry the camera up 12,000 feet of climbing. Details here: http://www.cyclingpros.com/onyx.htm

Will report back later tomorrow or Sunday!

The community yard sale was successful despite several showers. I ended up with my average seven bikes in various states of repair. The average was under $20 per.
  • One cheap Magna MTB (combination deal)
  • One middle range Fuji MTB
  • One nice Bianchi (black with celeste color saddle)
  • One very very nice pink Georgenia Terry lugged bike - 700c rear, 24" rear!
  • One mid 70's mid quality lugged steel bike
  • One heavy Schwinn Traveler
  • One Peugeot 70's lugged frame, cottered crank all Simplex/Mafac Racer etc.

Cleanup is commencing - pictures to follow.

It's a bike bought in order to clean/fix/upgrade/downgrade/strip etc. then sell on craigslist.org. I tend to clear, and repair bikes. Some people just "flip" them for a quick profit.

I like buying bikes my size to try them out. I'll commute to work on them and fine tune them so they ride acceptably. If it's an exceptional bike I decide if I'll add her to my stable.

These took over two hours to wash up. The Soma is mid range and interesting - I may spend some time making her shine again. The Schwinn traveler is going as fixie bait (steel wheels). The Fuji has a broken brake lever. I'll cherry pick the Peugeot, make her ridable and sell at a modest price.

Depends on the ride and fit of course- but that Bianchi and the Peugeot could be keepers.

Just wish we had as many yard sales over here as you have- The few we have and not many bikes and vastly overpriced if they are there. Just because a bike cost 300 in 1979 doesn't mean that it can sell for 200 today. But some mug always buys them.

We have the same here - plus some who think $20 is a great windfall. The Peugeot is medium quality - I have a better PX10 that I just got some Campy high flange wheels laced to new rims! She'll be complete now.
I will fix up the Bianchi and at least ride her to work.

As soon as I win the lotto. There are only four community yard sales per year nearby. It takes a lot of work to fix up these bikes and a lot of money to keep my wife.
