Happy Birthday Hermes 60
Whew what a long time. Are we having fun yet?
Decade birthdays are interesting. I do not remember my 10th as anything significant. My 20th was totally cool. 20 seems like an adult and one year away from drinking and voting. Got married at 22. I remember dreading 30 because, maybe, it was the end of youth. I thought 60 was f'ing old and those guys were finished. 40 was about black balloons, over the hill cards, midlife crisis and etc. I was now on the other side but 60 did not look as bad. 50 was fun and really seemed like a milestone. I am not sure why but 1/2 centuries may have something to do with it and 60 seemed pretty young. This morning 60 feels great and 80 looks pretty young. Boy do I feel frisky and spry.
Each Birthday for the last 30 something years, I try to do something special athletically. In the past, it may have been a run, a running race, cycling event and etc. It does not have to better than before but it is something more interesting.
Today I am participating in an open sprint tournament at the track - velodrome. This event starts with a timed flying 200 meters. The time is then used to seed the races in groups. You go out in pairs for a two lap races. The first one to cross the finish line in two laps wins. You go up against all the racers in your group. The last 200 meters is the sprint. Competition always results in much faster speeds and effort than you could ever do by yourself.
Tomorrow, I am participating in a 4 race omnium at the track which includes a points, scratch, miss and out and keirin format.
Have to get the bikes ready. Bike slaves do not get their birthdays off.

...just kidding, of course! What an amazing birthday weekend. Your attention to training is impressive, and helped motivate me to get off my butt on rainy days and stay on the bike. Hope you and the Better Half have a great weekend.

Happy Birthday Hermes. I guess you got your presents already, or was that just an encore.

Happy birthday to you, Sir, and maybe on your 90th, if I stay the same age as now, I'll be able to finish within 4 or 5 laps of you

I am beginning to feel old now.
I have slowed down a bit in the last couple of years but found that stamina has come in strongly. Not certain that I want to punish myself with the offroad enduros any longer so I took the more gentle route of road riding. Only a couple of years older than you but at 60 I decided that it was time to get out and ride and enjoy the ride. Especially as in my 60th year I found out about Mountains. I enjoy them but the training gets a bit hard sometimes.
So keep training and we need pics of the birthday PIE. Just don't put any candles on it as I have heard about your Forest fires running out of control
Happy birthday

Happy Happy day Rich. Life is so good and reaching these milestones is the icing on the cake. There is so much ahead of us and you, sir, are someone I think of as a model to look at for what can be accomplished.
Good luck in the races. Pics please.
Did you get your birthday spanking yet?

Happy Birthday, just READING your adventures makes me want to lie down and take a nap, from being exhausted I'll be really happy if I'm still just "riding" in 6 years much less doing the level of racing that you can do, your a pretty awesome dude. Enjoy the day!

Thanks for the Happy Birthdays.
The sprint tournament was fun and I did really well. At the start, the group sang happy birthday to me. My wife put them up to it and it was totally cool.
A month ago, my flying 200 time was 13.99 seconds. I was hoping for a 13.75 and would be very happy with a 13.5. I did a 13.24 gave me the best time in the B group. This was the best birthday present ever.
In addition to the flying 200, I did five matched sprints some of which were 2 up and some were 3 up. Below is a picture of the start of a 3 up. I am in the lead. It was 100 degrees at the track so we had tents setup and drank a lot of water. After the racing was over, I had two Muscle Milks versus my usual one.
