Biking Philosophy

Out cutting the grass this AM - my mind wanders when I do this job. Today it was on how life is or is not like a club ride. Here is what I cam up with - you can add your own thoughts.

Life is not like a club ride becuase:
1) The route doesn't follow the queue sheet they gave you at the start.
2) It doesn't feel good when you bury another rider.
3) It doesn't pay to try to finish first.
4) Sometimes they empty your water bottles along the way instead of offering you more.
5) You don't get to go home with all the fancy clothes, bike and assorted other crap you started the ride with.

We'll thats your daily dose of deeper thinking - sorry, it was the best I could come up with...

Additional thoughts welcome.

Sigh . . .

Not today. It's gloomy weather, the grass needs mowing, and it's Memorial Day weekend.

Buy better bikes, get happier, and ride more
Ride more, get happier, and buy better bikes
Get happier, ride more, and ride whatever bike you have
Buy bikes like any other kind of stuff you want to buy, and remain dissatisfied

Starts with the choice to commit

IMHO- Life is more like commuting/utility biking, much more serious than a club ride.

"Slow and easy" rides are sometimes slow and easy when you hang in the back, but then you have to dodge erratic n00bs riding hybrids with underinflated tires. When you go to the front they are no longer slow and easy, but if someone brakes abruptly, you're doomed.

I'm pretty sure St. Thomas Aquinas worked this out about 12 centuries ago.

....life is not like a club ride becauses

6.) You don't sign up for it, you just found yourself in the middle of it.
7.) No practice runs, it's a one time deal so you ride it well or you suck forever.
8.) You don't have to follow any prechosen route. You ride your own ride.

I don't really do club rides as I prefer to get away from "life", and ejoy the solitude. You can pretty much make riding what you want, slow, fast, club, alone, commute. Life you get it thrown at you and you get to make the best of it. I enjoy both life and cycling, but if I had to chose between the two
