Yesterday, 104 miles with 3500’ of hills. Some nagging headwind the first 65 miles but not as bad coming back to the house. Weather was spectacular. I felt pretty strong at the finish which was encouraging.

Snowball bush!

Lunch stop at 75 miles. I had to get it to go with the restrictions.

Our newest brewery with an Armed Services theme-owners are Veterans.

Gold Hill was part of the Gold Rush in the late 1800’s.

Local legend, I live in NASCAR country.

For Dale, Jr since he took up road riding several years ago.

Wet and windy
18 miles this afternoon on the Miners’ Ravine trail. Gusty wind and steady rain. Fenders and full rain gear. Creek rising from earlier downpours, trail just starting to go under in spots. Only one other rider. Took it at a comfortable pace.
Called in to 911 after witnessing a physical altercation along the trail. Man and woman; mid twenties; look recently homeless; fighting over a cell phone. 6ft versus 5ft5in. She apparently called it in herself. After i called it in Police followed up with me and took my statement as a witness.. Hope they can get into a better situation.

-6C proved to be perfect weather to head out 11 km on the local MUP along the river towards Riverbend/Discovery Canyon near the city’s outer limits. It’s an area also popular with XC skiers during the winter season.

The bare trail to the destination leads one underneath a couple of bridge spans.

Signs of ice breakup around the piers.

Other wide open areas such as this one at Riverbend won’t thaw for several more weeks. The inch of snow that we received yesterday covered up any signs of wildlife trails that normally dot the snow covered river. I stopped and looked out on the pristine white canvas in front of me and realized, at that moment, nothing else mattered. The serenity and whiteness of the snow was mesmerizing.

I only saw two skiers at Riverbend today including this fellow who, like me, seemed to be enjoying the solitude.

~11 mile ride on The Dale today.
While it was a 'weight loss' bike I built with spare parts and an Atlas 36h wheelset, this puppy feels pretty spry. Though I have stout wheels, a rack, and fenders, the low bar height and relative overall weight of the bike.. and geometry otherwise give it a really nimble feel. About 28 lbs even with these wheels, a 3/4 full water bottle, rack with a Morph strapped to it, and loaded seatbag ...oh, and lights.
If I was to go to work doing bike deliveries downtown, I think I'd use this one. It was cheap, and just feels like a bike you could bomb around downtown all day.

Jumped my mileage up to 50, over a previous best of 30 mi this Spring.
Up the sunny-er side of Lake Sammamish, Marymoor Park closed, then home.

A vintage bus at a 50’s themed restaurant

Then home.

Home again. Merckx Corsa Extra SLX. So smooth.

Last night, 17 easy miles, dark and 70F. Enjoy the Silence. There was a fine mist swirling in the air and gradually coasting my glasses. Probably aerosolized coronavirus. (Kidding!)

Ride through town
I just got my power meter installed and was anxious to see the data. Windy day, fought the wind the whole way home.

Another good day.

^^ Out the door. This belongs in the Garden thread.

On the road

On the fringes of bulging suburbia - we in unincorporated-land prefer large lots and room to throw things around

Home safe & sound
Just short of 40 mi. Undulating terrain and some climbs. For locals = Issaquah Hobart road past Hobart, returning to Issaquah via Glen Canyon rd. I’m staying off trails.
and... as always.... glad to be posting this thread

Pardon my punctuation, I'm posting from mobile because my desktop monitor croaked (bad timing) and I don't have a replacement yet.
Yesterday 12.2 miles after dark to the greenway and back as an easy cruise with a side hike along some farm fields for some contact with nature. It was 38F meaning I had to bust out my coat and gloves. A rare treat this late in the season, I thought I was done with that.
This evening from dusk into dark, 22 miles toward town and back. On the way down the four-lane into town, passed a police car parked off to the side. I didn't quite catch what he said but it could have been "you need to be home before dark" or "you can't be out after dark". Which would be strange because neither the governor's order not the city enforcement of it include a curfew, and outdoor exercise is an allowed exception to the stay-at-home order. I ride with a printed copy of it in case it comes up.

102 miles with 6400’ of climbing along the base of the NC Blue Ridge Mountains. Gorgeous day with lots of long views.

Rockford General Store, see the Chief Statue?

Vineyards everywhere

Another long view

Kapps Mill dam

Dogwoods in full bloom

What a view today

Lots of small rural communities today

Just love what they’ve done with the Cross

Great vineyard! Their vines are imported from Italy.

One last ride before the snow returns.
We're supposed to get a springtime dump in the Southern suburbs today through Monday afternoon. The newspaper calls it 'plowable.' Got out for a 40 mile ride while the sun shined and the temps were in the high 50's.

You guys that routinely do 100 miles with thousands of feet of climbing -- make me realize I missed more than just the one session when doG was handing out good looks.

Just wandering today as family commitments + instinct said ‘stay close to home’. May Valley, Coal Creek, Squak Valley. Looking for odd stuff. 1st pic is starting out. Last = home safe. ‘89 Falcon, 531c, Campy NR & friction 6.

Trail ride
Saturday, 4/12/20, 7:30am. A beautifully overcast day. 58degrees, thanks to a marine layer that blew in from the coast. 10 miles of gravel and single-track at Folsom Lake for a change of pace. Dirt was still moist from storms earlier in the week, perfect grip and no dust. Rode the specialized pseudo-cross.

Monday morning we had storms and tornado warnings then a 20mph wind from the west to sweep it all away. I headed west in pushy conditions although uphill so I wasn't going too fast anyway, tacked a couple miles south, then blasted home with a 20mph tailwind. Bikesurfing. I loved every part of that ride. The sun was coming up beneath a cloud deck as I finished, bathing treetops in a wash of gold. 16.1 miles.

Short ride today, testing a new-to-me wheelset with vintage tubulars. There’s zero tread wear and the sidewalls aren’t too bad. Glued well. But will be changed pretty soon. Or sooner.
Just about 18 miles along May Valley.

Perfect weather 60s with low humidity.

How long can this weather last?

72 Bottecchia Giro de Italia, Columbus SP, Campagnolo. Mostly original. New Universal re-pop hoods from Rustines.

Managed a 2 segmented ride yesterday/today. Began 8:34pm yesterday with temps low 80°F humidity close to 100% as the winds were settling down and rode a slow/easy/sweating bullets 83 miles. Met Ghost Rider as he was heading home so I took a coffee/NY Style Cheesecake break at Café Ghost Rider then back out for another 38 miles.

The east side of Puget Sound, especially the foothills towns, hit 70*. First time since Sept. Low humidity and full sun. Finished a new-to-me bike, built up from a frameset. Also posted more photos in C&V ride thread.

Nice half an hour ride through almost empty streets of Jupiter, FL, 8 miles, good enough as I am trying to restart my regular biking trips this year. Still mostly trying to work on improving my running endurance which seems to be exhausting and putting much stress and strain on my cardiovascular and musculoskeletal system. Biking seems to be perfect cross training between runs and vice versa. All pools, beaches still closed. Weather near perfect mid to high 70's in the morning, light wind, sun on and off, and some rain too.

A1A between Jupiter and Juno

before the beaches were closed
