About 20 miles to and around the mud lake trail outside North Sioux City S.D. Crushed limestone and wet sand made the first ride of the season a work-out. The bike needs a bath.

Does Zwift count? Ended up with 15 miles, and had a good, mildly competitive ride through "Fuego Flats Reverse" with a rider from Germany. See the orange power spike near the middle along the bottom? That was 426 (peak) watts of sprint effort right at the end to beat him out.

Stayed South of the Metro today. The George Floyd trial starts today and already there are protests in both downtowns.

8.5 miles in warm (for the season - 62F), sunny, too windy weather on Chicago's North Shore. Earliest I've ever ridden, I think, not counting when I was a kid. Most miles ridden in March since 2013. I hope this is a good omen for 2021.
I've been on my trainer more this past winter, so I rode stronger and faster today than usual for the first ride. Got passed 5 times, which is more than usual, too....
Man, it was GREAT to ride on the rode again!

I usually ride 15 miles a day Monday to Friday, then on the weekends, I will ride 35 to 85 miles. I am a fair weather rider only, no rain.

We got out for our first real tandem ride since last fall, 40 miles, but only 900' of gain. We got tired anyway, but it's a start. I've cued up 40 mile rides for the next few weekends, gradually increasing gain to 2000'. I guess we'll see how that goes.

Got in 20 miles on what's suppose to be the LAST nice day for ride before a possible heavy winter snow fall heads in for late Weds. into Thursday, Fri, Sat, Sun!! :O Partly sunny, 66 F and a bit breezy it was a enjoyable ride a mix of bike lanes, back streets and urban trails!

Stopped at a small park for our Brown Bag Lunch, one lone picnic table so we used it. On our way to Manitou Springs, CO.

I loved the warm sun on my back today!! A tremendous amount of fun exploring some new to me roads east of Denton. I was impressed with the long views, surprised with some of the hills and saw goats everywhere!!! It’s the kind of roads you could ride daily and not get bored with them. A very nice 50+ miler from the Darrs on High Rock Lake.

Cruising in the sun, in tights.
I too enjoyed the sun - but the only real heat came from out-of-saddle efforts on vintage gearing. Tough on early season legs.
Mostly just rolling around the hills, seeking the low traffic roads for about 20mi.

AustroDaimler Olympian, 1981/82, Huret/Nervar drivetrain. Tubulars with Conti Sprinters. Formerly, the ‘wet bike’ but only wearing front frender, due to my laziness in removing it.

A good day to ride
Around Cougar Mt.
Coalfield to Newcastle to Lakemont, Issaquah, home. Something over 25 mi. with hills. Approx 2000’ climbing.

Still wet in the lowest valley fields

Skirt Newcastle town and up past the golf course

Bellevue FD #8 at the top of the climb

Lk Sammamish across the I-90 Freeway

First attempt at blossoms

Almost home

Quick there and back ride on a windy day.

Senior Member
12+ miles in high 50s, seemed like a strong SSE wind off Lake Michigan. I had a choice between riding outside or putting my bike back on the trainer. There's no comparison - the road wins. When I'm actually on the road, the wind wins.
This early in the season, a headwind really takes a lot out of me psychologically. (Hmm ... maybe next time I'll just ride with the wind for 10-20 miles and take a train home....)

These first early season rides are great. 3rd consecutive day dictates for me a shorter distance. The neighborhood I visited has hills - but steeper than I remember. A leg workout at times.
ride the ridge and a water storage facility may serve the community just below.

Emerge from a forested area to find a cell phone tower and there should be a view. (though not much from an old phone camera).

Must be an invasive species for Cascade foothills

11 miles today on the DeRosa. First ride since late fall. I unscrewed the valve stem from the front tire (twice) while airing up. Finally convinced it to stay put! Man, am I out of shape.

Rode my singlespeed cross bike around Big Bear Lake, CA, while my kid snowboarded
Those WTB Nanos hook up pretty good actually on the icy/snowy sections. Had a little friendly reminder about black ice--nearly bit it!

Really terrific 82 miler from the house over to the Darrs on High Rock Lake this afternoon. The weather was perfect for riding. I used the route around Denton which I rode on Wednesday except I went in the opposite direction. It’s probably going to become my go to route when I’m looking for additional miles.
To get a 100 miler I just need to add some miles after China Grove. It was nice to have a helping wind today the 25+ miles on Bringle Ferry Road which I took end to end—-Salisbury to Denton.
I messed up my back this morning and thankfully the most comfortable position right now is sitting on the saddle and leaning forward. I just can’t stand up straight so probably no golf for a week. But at least I can still ride!!!
With the lack of miles in January and February I can now start feel my endurance getting better the last few rides so hopefully I can continue to increase the length of these rides.

I was going to ride today. It was sunny and warm at 64F, but windy. I went out to check the actual conditions and strode into a steady 15 mph or so wind. There was a gust and it almost knocked me off my feet.
No ride today. Risking my safety is not fun at my age.

I did not ride a lot of miles.
I rode the same short route a bunch of times.
It's Spring Evaluate your Consumable Needs for the Year Day.
Rode about a dozen of these guys.
Still a few in project mode.

I rode 66 miles back up to the in-laws as it was my mother in law’s 89th birthday. I’m really lucky to have terrific in-laws. Overcast skies with temperatures in the 40’s most of the ride. I stopped for lunch and enjoyed a sliced pork bbq sandwich with hush puppies!

My in-laws church

Just over the hill is the Davidson County Solar farm. It was the largest in the US at the time it was completed. I used to visit it before I retired.

It was a good day!!

Another safe ride to the lake, second one this week.

A St Patrick’s Day green Krispy Kreme glazed doughnut.

My wife and the St Paddy’s day girl.
