Thank you Spedfast for clearing up the confusion.
Again another late start on my ride today at 12:30 pm. My mileage was a little shorter than I would’ve liked but I was running an errand and I had a late afternoon obligation. But ditto on yesterday’s weather. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...cc67ee0cf.jpeg |
87km today. My coldest ride of the year (so far), it never got above zero. All week the forecast called for snow today, and my daughter was looking forward to playing in the snow at school with her friends. But there wasn't a cloud in the sky. She might not have liked it, but I was grateful that it stayed clear.
We'll be skiing up at Nozawa Onsen in Nagano for most of next week. My daughter will get more than her fill of playing in the snow then. I'm looking forward to doing some skiing myself, if I can't ride my bike, skiing is the next best thing. Today I weighed 70.3 kg, a year ago today I was 82.3. By the end of February I should finally make it below 70kg. |

I got out fairly early today at 9:00am and rode for 24 miles. But unfortunately I didn’t turn on ridewithgps app until l was 8 miles in. The ride was to Clearwater Beach which was foggy. Though once away from the beach it was sunny and beautiful. https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...929b4ffa5.jpeg |
Got a nice mtb ride in this morning in between our storms. It was wet and muddy but fun as always!

About 6 miles on the MTB today. It warmed up to 7 F. I haven't rode in almost a month, mostly due to the snow mess on the streets, and if not that, extreme cold.
No photo's this time around. A slow go with the road conditions, but I couldn't wipe the "glad to be back on bike" grin off my face for the first 2 miles. @ Essiemyra: Decent rear rack! That would be something worth looking for. -D.S. |

I managed to string together FOUR days of riding in rapid succession, including some miles on a battered '99 Schwinn Peloton a friend gave me and a bunch of time in the saddle of a well-worn, battle-scarred but utterly amazing old Lighthouse that is finally coming together! Something over 70 miles for the lot, including one 27-mile or so jaunt with friends from a local cycling advocacy group. I'm enjoying "Fool's Spring" in South Carolina, knowing full well there's a tradition of ice storms coming in March ...

Another trip around the lake. It was 80° with a light breeze and sunshine.
I was funny when I was about 3/4 of the way around and got to a point where the 10mph wind was blowing down the lake across the trail. It felt like the ac had come on. |

Nice weather here.
I escorted the wife for 8 miles this morning, then got out solo this afternoon for another 10. |

Yeah it does. So much that it becomes a hike a bike in some sections but I don't mind. lol I usually start from one of the entrances and head under the 280 until Canada Rd. for a turn around via Sheep Camp Trail which also gets very wet and muddy. Then back into Waterdog.
WD is technically closer to my place driving, but I'd rather drive over to Arastradero (15 mins) for a quick hour-ish ride. I find that many hikers at WD are very grumpy or clueless, while those at Arastradero are very chill and friendly. I ride mostly greens for a fun/workout/fitness, and to prep for hard for me blue trails. And yes, WD single track is super slippery, so I’ve hiked a biked a few times. *FWIW, for those who chant, “Don’t ride when the trails are muddy,” and I agree for groomed MTB trails… but Sheep Camp Trail is a wide mixed gravel dirt fire road/access road, not a groomed MTB trail, there is runoff forming puddles over gravel. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...8de584d0e9.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...79731fc365.jpg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...b6aae14b7c.jpg |
I got in a quick 25 mile ride today. I normally go on long rides on Friday, but I had to take the dog to the groomer at 10am, and tonight we are driving (meaning I am driving) to Nagano to ski for a few days. Since I couldn’t ride very far, I decided to ride fast. I’ve been riding my gravel bike almost exclusively for the past several months, but this morning I dusted off my Tarmac SL7, and what a difference a light bike makes. I broke my records for 20, 30, and 40km, was 7th fastest on the Yoyogi cycling circuit, and 2nd all time fastest for my age group. Not bad for a ride so early in the season.

2cam16 Funny, I usually do the reverse...most often starting at Cañada Rd – at various points, then the up Sheep Camp Tr, then over to WaterDog. Typically, I ride all of Lake Rd with a few variations down to the fun stuff, depending on time or dirt/mud conditions then back to Cañada. I was just remembering that Sheep Camp Trail was my testing ground for my geeky fender experiments*, about a year ago. The last version worked…double Mucky Nutz mud guards, with DIY extensions. There was a lot of rain last winter!

I left the house at 8:30 am for my ride this morning. The ride was mostly the same as yesterday again wanting to be in the shade. My ride was for 21 miles and with a stop at the market for deli meats for lunch. In the bottom picture is a bmx course in the next town over from us. They are setting up for a weekend race there.

Another lap around the lake today. Light wind, 78° and sunshine.
I’m going out at least once tomorrow. There is a cold front coming thru tomorrow evening so I need to get the most out if what we are getting. |

Though I did get out and ride today for 10 miles. After all the days riding I got in this week I wasn't feeling the need to get out and ride. But I decided just to run an errand by bike. Nothing exciting but I did ride. |
I just posted this on the C&V where'd you ride today thread and thought I would share --
I got in TWO back-to-back days of good rides! Friday I set out on Ruby the Lighthouse on what I originally thought would be my usual 15-mile route - but we are experiencing Fool's Spring still here in South Carolina, and the 70-degree temperatures led me to turn left and head for scenic Hodges. On Dixie Drive I saw a ruin by the roadside I had somehow missed all these years and stopped for a photo of the day's mount - https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...3455e2a91.jpeg I rolled on through what is best described as a hamlet and took my usual route down Blue Jay Road, left on Klugh with its brutal climb, and came back via Flatwood Road. The high point of the way out was passing an enormous hawk on Dixie Drive, while the route back home gave me an encounter with a truly great great blue heron - https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...5b1221b58.jpeg And thence home with 27 miles or so for the day. Today I felt more adventurous, and decided to ride fixed and to stretch things out some. Initially I second-guessed myself, as there was more wind than I originally thought - but then I just HTFU'ed my way through it and felt better immediately. My first stop was at White Hall, which is one of those places on the map that isn't really there anymore. Behold scenic White Hall, South Carolina for yourself! https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...0999b835f.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...399a3907b.jpeg One crosses the highway and rolls on towards Rock House Road here. Shortly after I did so, I passed a very large, very dead feral hog, had words with a big female pit bull, and disturbed more than a dozen turkey vultures who were dining on the feral hog's sibling who had fallen in the shade. I stopped to admire the vista - there's not much out here but scrub brush from prior tree-cutting and local hunt clubs. https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...60e539b95.jpeg I paused at the bridge, wondering idly how many bodies and guns I would find poking around down there, then concluded that was much too much a dark thought for such a lovely day. https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...d0d986666.jpeg Then I was on Rock House Road, long a favorite of mine. As always, I cannot pass the abandoned ruin that gives the place its name without getting a photo - https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...38cbf8706.jpeg I texted this photo to my wife, who responded, "that place is creepy." And it is, at least at night, though with today's foreboding clouds it managed to look suitably gothic. On the other hand, the 32 mm tires and larger mudguards just look right on this bike, so aesthetically, all is good! Anyway, on I rolled down to the swampy area at the next bridge - https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...a1042f7d6.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...da622ee56.jpeg - and then I was rolling through more settled agricultural areas. I was pleased to discover I was in longhorn country - https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...191a28b15.jpeg - and rode on for a while with the theme from the 1960 version of The Magnificent Seven in my head. I took the rail-trail in and stopped in at the lone coffee shop downtown moments before they closed at three and scored an iced frappuccino which I enjoyed very much, thank you. Then home, winding up with 33 miles for the day and very much enjoying myself. |

Needed to get in a ride between the rains! stayed on the road but with my Exie – I stayed off the dirt. I started at Sawyer Camp Trail, stopped at the Andreas Fault Marker at the Crystal Springs Reservoir, needed more miles after SCT headed back to Cañada Rd and wandered into Filoli, but not to go in just look around the edges. Someday I will go in. On the way out saw a gaggle of turkeys along the entrance road. Crisp day but glad to be able to ride finally after all the rain!
