The winds weren't bad at all - maybe 13-15 mph. It's just that with my current fitness, I was barely ready for 100km. The hills and winds just made the ride a little more difficult. From the official startpoint, the headwind leg was from mile 38-50, and the big climbs were at miles 52 and 59, which were the main reasons I started from the 2nd checkpoint which put those about 16 miles earlier in the ride. Plus the 2nd checkpoint is only about 5 miles from my house. Confession: I had to walk the climb at official mile 59. My ride log (using RideWithGPS) says it was 12%. I don't remember it being that steep, but that's probably because the last time I rode up it was 40 years ago when I lived in south Minneapolis and I was in my mid-20s ;)

Of course it is!

This is for yesterday I got out after setting up the trailer and found 8 miles in the Black Moshannon state forest. I wasn't too comfortable riding as in the campground they don't have cell service and not being able to contact my husband during my ride makes me uncomfortable. So 8 miles is all I rode.

From yesterday. 27 mike mountain bike ride. Came flying around a corner and was blocked by two black snakes. Took a few pictures and they finished and left while I was looking for a way around.

I think Eastern Virginia Middle Peninsula is too far North for Eastern Coachwhip. We have Black Snakes.

I played tour guide to a friend from SF, down in my peninsula hood. It was his first long ride of the year. We stopped at Village Hub, along with all the other over 50's riders! so many! We shared a table with a young mother and about 10 month old Thomas, a good boy, Cappuccino and cookies. So good! I got in 27 chill miles.

I got out and rode today for 18.9 miles. The temp was a cool 50 f degrees with partly sunny skies. With low temps like today it encourages movement, no breaks along the way.

55km, at a round pace. Strava said I got a good workout

You must be in fantastic shape. Took my bike out past weekend. Rode .5 miles total and I was tired. But then I'm just getting back into this after retiring.

essiemyra 04-21-26 06:18 PM

Yes I rode today for 21 miles. Some of the miles were off the bike path on nice quiet back roads, so very pleasant riding. The temp didn't get to 50 f degrees today, but it was sunny. https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/bikefor...ba5774a165.jpg

That's one very minimalistic and sleek bike, if I ever saw one. Very clean lines.

I wish. My heart rate is high because I am not yet in good shape. 55km around a mostly level course with no traffic or intersections isn't too challenging. Luckily fitness comes pretty fast if you ride regularly. My first good ride of the season was only 3 weeks ago, and my legs felt like spaghetti afterward. But I notice an improvement with every ride, today's ride was longer and faster, but felt easier than my last ride.

62km today, my longest ride since my crash last September. It's hot for April, and I forgot my sunglasses. I'll try to do a longer ride on Friday, if weather allows.

Don't know if I'd call it a ride. Went out on 4/21 to my favorite section of the local MUP, unloaded the bike out of the back of the truck, then saw the sign- "Path Closed Ahead". Didn't say how far ahead, and it's a LONG paved path, so figured I'd give it a go. Should have packed up and headed for a different section but didn't. Around 3.5 miles was where it was closed. So turned around, and luckily the section joins another park (in the opposite direction from the parking lot) that can be accessed after riding a long uphill. Between the wind- 20+ with gusts in the upper range, the pollen- my black SUV is now yellow, and few rides in so far this season, I just wasn't in good form. I did manage to get around 10 miles done but isn't going to be one of my favorite rides this season. But between very high winds this spring, rain, and allergies kicking up, was "biting at the bit" to get a ride in. Did find that the triple front der. adjustments worked well. Bike felt good, worked great, looking forward to better rides ahead.

4.7miles today. Two months ago I fell while making a very slow turn around, while trying to turn my pedal over to make sure that I didn't accidentally clip in and risk falling. Turns out there was a curb, and I went over - landed on my hands, so I didn't get hurt except a 65 year old body doesn't want to twist 90° and absorb impact, so I was tender. Then I had oral surgery 3 weeks ago, and dentist said not to get my HR or BP up while the healing was going on. This getting old stuff is a PITA.

I had an impacted wisdom tooth cut out this morning. It isn’t fun.

I rode the Mini City Slickers 125km yesterday. A couple of months ago my plan was to ride the City Slickers 200km but I just didn't have the miles in the legs so I dropped down to the shorter event.

The ride went well. Some light rain between 9am and 11am (the rides started at 8am). A few steep hills (10-12%) and about a mile of washboard gravel made me wish I had reviewed the course profile rather than just the directions. I actually lost my cue sheet (clipped to my stem) on the gravel section but didn't notice it until a few miles later, so I had to stop a few times to check my phone to make sure I was still on the correct route.

About 63 miles into the ride I really needed to get off the saddle and sit down somewhere. I spotted these picnic tables just off the Gateway State Trail near the "World's Biggest Snowman" so I took this snap of his backside.

I was out riding mid-morning today. The ride was 21.6 miles long and a good portion of it off the bike path on quiet back roads. Riding conditions were pleasant with mostly sunny skies.

essiemyra 04-27-26 05:36 PM

I was out this morning by 9:30 am and rode for 23. 1 miles. I stopped at a grocery store and did a little shopping on my ride. I need to find a way to carry items on my bike. I put the groceries in my back pack but am not able to carry to much.

72km today, on my adventure bike. I rewarded myself with a "Double Shackburger" at Shake Shack. I deserved it.

I left the house early this morning so I could ride over to the senior center. I rode for 22 miles today and played whist at the center, so a great day!
