A short ride today as I rode with my daughter for 12.6 miles. Its the first time she has been out riding in a few years, though she kept a good pace. The weather wasn't conducive for riding but we did anyway.

I recommend a Ortlieb Quick Rack LINK and a pannier bag or you could repurpose some other type bag but would have to customize the attachment to the rack. After setting up the rack, it takes 1 minute to attach the rack to the bike! Because it is so easy and fast to attach and remove, it is does not need to stay on the bike. Though permanent rear racks are less expensive, so you pay for the portability. And carrying things in a pannier, on a rear rack, is very difference than carrying groceries in a backpack, which I did last night, coincidentally.

Today a MTB ride in a local park. It has been a while, for both that park and my MTB! The grasses were high! Rode about 2 hours, 9.5 miles, 1500ft.

I did get a ride in on Tues, 4/28. My post is in the hybrid section as I took a neophyte rider from a senior exercise class out to get used to riding. Didn't have anything to take a pic along with me, but we had had some severe thunderstorms, and the creek which we were riding along had been over the mup. Still some mud and puddles on it, but mostly dry. The old GT performed fine-surprised me how well it did. Hardly get ridden these days--almost forgot how much fun it could be! Pic of the bike is in my post in HYBRID.

Seven and a half miles today after the dentist cleared me not to have to avoid getting my blood pressure or heart rate up too high. A month post-surgery and already I've lost a little bit of fitness but I've got three months to prepare for the Tour de Whatcom 44 miler.

I had a wisdom tooth cut out last Friday. I am just now cleared to exercise but he said no sprints or climbing hills. I don’t sprint but my local lake mup is all hills.

Thank-you for your suggestion letrebici, and it looks great. I was going to go with your suggestion but today I stopped into my lbs as I am back in town and talked with the people who sold me the bike and I now have a rack on my bike(which I wasn't sure was possible). Though I appreciate your suggestion.

I got out and rode yesterday for 21 miles and today also for 12.6 miles as I left the house at 3:30 pm with dark clouds and rain predicted but I needed to ride. So I did.

Awesome Essiemyra. Enjoy the new rack!

str If you're in Boston ... consider a ride along the North Shore to Gloucester ... this is a very scenic route I take from Gloucester to Boston, which includes a bike trail called the Northern Strand. . You can take your bike on the commuter rail (no extra charge) on times that indicate that bicycles are permitted. So, you may ride North, and take the train back to North Station if you like.

See the train (MBTA) schedule at https://www.mbta.com/schedules/CR-Newburyport/timetable (with destinations and departures from Rockport / Gloucester)

A nice 32 mile loop this morning before the heavier rain started at 11:00 AM ... stopped at Black Beach in Manchester-by-the-Sea for coffee and a snack.

I live with the water directly south of me. From my house, east and west have a 9% grade. North is less, but still 7% in some places. I had the 3 front lower teeth removed, and bone buildup for implants in the summer. When walking a golf course a couple of weeks ago, I could feel pressure when walking uphill at a brisk pace and had to moderate my speed. I think my mouth is ready for the 9%, but I need to get a couple of more rides in so the leg muscles and lungs remember what it's like to take on that b**ch of a hill 3 minutes into my ride.

My Xmas present to myself

Mounted my new WheelTop EDS gearset last weekend. It was my Xmas present to myself. I keep fighting cable stretch and have to realign my rear derailleure.
Tore the bike down and mounted the new gear set a in couple of hours. Setup/configuration of the derailleures is done with your cell phone.
You map each gear individually and then lock them in. Had my first ride today wtih my son. SO SMOOTH! Seriously smooth shifting.
I have 2 cassettes for my bike, 11-28 and 11-32. I just swap out the rear rim for roads vs hills. WheelTop app lets me save my gear settings so I just click in the
relative gear setting and i'm good to go. Well worth the effort!!
