I rode 54 miles this morning with a group from Atlanta who were staying at a nearby lake and contacted me through the club website looking for a good local route. They were mostly mid 20 to mid 30 y/o triathletes training for an upcoming half ironman. They were nice folks despite their obvious insanity. I was completely unable to keep up with them, so I took a shortcut to meet them in the middle of their 60 mile route. One of them was fading on the second half, so I had some company off the back.
It was only 80s to 90F during the ride, but the humidity was very high. Sweat started pouring out of my saturated helmet pads early in the ride and continued for most of it. I was amazed to see them at the end, after putting their bike on their cars, put on running shoes and head out for a 45 minute midday run.
I went for a meal and a tall glass of beer instead.

30.3 miles today. Humidity was 80% when I left and 68% when I got back. Temp in the mid 70s to mid 80s. It was a cloudy day in sunny Florida. Very good ride today until the thunder started and the dark clouds rolled in.
258.6 miles this month
3738 miles this year
120 ride days LY vs 119 ride days TY
3761 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
I am @ 49.8% of my goal. I need to be @ 66.6% (5000 miles) by the end of August
263 miles ahead of last year at this date
Today's ride as seen thru the eyes of my bike:
Photos from left to right
1. & 2. some horse farms on Ibis Road
3. The entrance to the bike tunnel under SR 434 a very busy and dangerous intersection. The county is getting ready to start another tunnel under Lake Mary Blvd. and International Pky. which is about 6 miles north of the 434 tunnel. It will be completed late summer 2011.
4. You can always tell what the weather is by the bikes outside of Panera Bread in Heathrow
5. Here is an idea of what you can do with that old school bus that is setting out behind your house. Oh, you don't have a school bus behind your house

I did my longest ride ever today, 104 miles. This is 3 miles longer than last Sunday and for me to do back to back Sunday centuries is sort of exciting to me. My average speed was about a half mph slower than last week but who cares right. It was not planned and I had a rear flat at the 64 mile mark and rode the rest with no spare tube or patches, yikes! I decided to do the 100 around the 50 mile mark. I was feeling pretty good and the weather was beautiful and I had nothing better to do so I went for it.

Been slowly building back for the last three days after having the flu for nearly a week. I did remarkably well in truth, probably because I dropped 4 lbs.
It sure felt good to get outside.

Got in just over 70 miles in today. Cooler here today, only 99 degrees when I got home. Considerably cooler than last week.

I was trying out a "test" saddle today and got in 35 miles. At 6 miles I stopped to adjust it a tad and found out I had forgot to put the wedge back on! No tools and more important no tubes! I decided to keep going anyway. The whole ride I was worrying about having no tube or patches.

yes I did 35 miles with a "test" saddle. About 6 miles out I stopped to adjust it a tad and found out I had forgot to replace my wedge under the saddle. It has my tools and spare tubes so I had neither!
I decided to ride on and was worried the whole way of not having a tube or patch in case I need one.

12.2 miles today @ 19.3 ave (regular morning ride before work). 12.2 yesterday @ 19.5. The real work was the White Mountain tour on Saturday and Sunday. I will try to get a write up and pics in a day or so (as I promised Pamestique).

I put 30 more miles on the demo Fizik saddle today. So far so good on the test.
86°/51% humidity when I left at 4pm and I just went out and back on the Rail Trail close by.

Due to a major event at our house on Friday evening, my ride was postponed until after mowing, trimming, edging, gardening and some pond management. Rode evening into night with temps falling from the 80's for 24 miles at a 17.8 mph pace. Really sweet ride.

Today’s ride as seen through the eyes of my bike
Today was cloudy and humid but the temps were not too bad, so I mounted the camera on the bike and headed out just to see what I could find. The first photo that I took was of a Gopher Turtle sitting at the entrance of his borrow. However the closer that I got to him the further he backed into his hole, so you will not see that photo. No one wants to see a hole in the ground.
The next thing that caught my eye was a small farm that had two little ponies that were very interested in what I was doing. Or perhaps they thought I had some food for them, anyway they had to come over and investigate me and the bike/camera. The next photo is the bike bridge over I-4 just north of Lake Mary. While Seminole County lacks in a lot of things they have done a good job on bridges and tunnels at major intersections and over major highways along the trails. The next photo is the bridge over Lake Mary Blvd as I headed south on the Cross Seminole Trail. I went through two tunnels today but took no photos of them.
At this point I decided to head on south to Long Wood and ride around the historic area since I love history and old houses. Most of the old houses and buildings have been restored and are currently being used as offices and specialty shops. At the end of one street is the Long Wood Fire Dept. and behind the fire house I saw several Sand Hill Cranes looking for a mid morning snack. I really like these birds because they look so majestic when they are standing still and they make such a racket when they start screaming and when they are in the air they look like a long pencil with wings.
Well the thunder heads were gathering to the west so I figured I had better start for home before the rains came. As I was riding out of the district I spotted a very large beautiful home called Magnolia Acres and was built around 1888, so I figured I would stop and take a picture. The drive way looked as if it had a small parking lot at the far end so I figured that it was some type of office like most of the others that I had seen, so down the drive way I went. Just as I got up to the house a car pulled into the area behind me and a women got out and started taking things from the car trunk. I asked her if she owned the house and she said that she did (boy did I feel stupid, it was a private residence). She was very nice and told me about the history of the house and said I could take all of the photos that I wanted to. I declined her offer except for the one photo shown here.
Today’s ride was about 30 miles in length but 100s of miles in enjoyment.

92° , pretty humid, not too sure what but I think I may have sweated more today than any other ride this year. 35.6 miles. Seems my average speed is always the same these days. I guess you can say "Just another average ride"
Felt good even though I was drenched.
