Just a 15 mile RT commute, but I managed to break a couple of spokes on the front wheel of my Tricross bike. I thought these things were supposed to be bullet-proof???

I'm proud to report that after months of fear & dithering, I actually managed to ride my Electra Townie to and from the Post Office - less than 5 m round trip but hey, it's a start, right?
(Did a few practice circles in a parking lot before heading home - feel MUCH more secure on the bike now than I did just an hour ago!)

28.3 miles today.
467.2 miles this month
3947 miles this year
122 ride days LY vs. 126 ride days TY
3552 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles)
I am @ 52.6% of my goal. I need to be @ 66.6% (5000 miles) by the end of August
401 miles ahead of last year at this date
Today’s ride as seen through the eyes of my bike:
After my bout with leg cramps on Sunday I took Monday off and planned to take Tuesday as well. However about 7:30 pm Tuesday evening I decided to try and work some of the stiffness out of the legs. I went out and did a short easy 6 miles, didn’t take the computer or wear a helmet, just wanted to spin.
Today I got out pretty early (7:30 am) and did an easy 28. Did my usual Panera Bread ride and had a bagel with veggie cream cheese and a large iced tea before heading home.
There are several nice neighborhoods that border the Seminole Wekiva Trail that cyclist can and do ride thru and pick up additional mileage with low traffic and wide smooth roads. This morning I rode thru Springs Landing Estates. I can pick up about 6 additional miles by doing this loop. I have seen deer in this area even in the late morning but I guess it was just too hot for them to be moving.
Yesterday I went to Orange Cycle in College Park and bought Hammer Endurolytes, an electrolyte replenishment capsule, I took 2 before I left this morning then one at Panera Bread and another on the way home. It may be a little premature to say that they work but I feel better after today’s ride than I normally do after a similar ride. If they do the same thing tomorrow I will be a convert and RICK @OCCR will be my new best friend for his post in another thread about leg cramps.
I hope you enjoyed my ride…

Yes, 85 sunny and muggy, chose the most shaded route possible down to Long Island Sound for some light sea breezes, a view of NY city, and then back up Sands Point to town.
A few cellie photos at:
https://theoutsideinsideout.blogspot.com/
It's a treat to be so close to NYC and yet have some really good riding available on the North Shore of the Island...if you don't mind a few hills (former glacial moraine).

Had the day off, so got a late start 9:30 -- all the usual suspects had ended their rides by then, saw no other cyclists but a few joggers and walkers.

Very boring ride today, outside of the heat and humidity the only two things worth mentioning were the 2 gals that I had a conversation with at Panera Bread and the armadillo that was digging for his breakfast beside the road. I thought it was a little premature to ask the gals if I could photograph them but the armadillo didn't care. So here is my photo contribution for today, such as it is....

kjc9640, where did you see the armadillo? Looks like either Turkey Lake area or Heathrow area. When I lived in Orlando I usually only saw them on the side of the road.
The temperature was "only" 88F when I left for my ride today. The humidity was awful.
Only did 25 miles.

Ron, very good observation, that is in the Heathrow area and you are correct most of them are seen along side the road .... dead with buzzards picking on them. This one was at the very southern end of International Parkway if you are familiar with the area. It is just south of Lake Mary Blvd and adjacent to I-4

I think I may have done 10 miles today! Don't have an odometer or anything. But after making another trip to the Post Office, I rode around for almost an hour, just zippin' up one street and down the other, as the spirit moved me.
It was fun! Though I did notice some things I need to adjust on my bike - mainly the seat! It's a wide comfy seat but for some reason, today it was NOT "booty friendly" as Whoopi Goldberg puts it! My hubby thinks I just need to raise it up a little, so will try that tomorrow.

Wide, soft seats are OK for short rides. For most of us they are terrible for long rides as they squish a lot of skin around and create sores. That's why you see the racer types (and others like me) with narrow seats.

2nd place in the Chapel Crit Series B race tonight. $25 winnings goes into the cheap plastic award bowl. I'm saving all my winnings for a pizza party and maybe a couple 6 packs when I retire from racing.

I rode to work all 5 days this week. It was some nice northbound with a tailwind rides to work in the morning darkness, but the afternoon southbound trip against the hot wind was a bit tough.
Just after I turned onto the shoulder of Crowley Road yesterday afternoon, a very pimped out car pulled up beside me. The rap music blasting from it was deafening, even with the completely blackened windows all the way up. Before I had time to wonder what was going on, the passenger window came down, and a gangsta-looking young man behind the wheel turned the music down, leaned over, looked at me, and said, "Your kickstand's down!" I thanked him, stopped, and raised my kickstand.

Got up on the BRP for a quick ride up to the high point and back to the car. 18 miles, 1800' of climbing. Temps were max 73º and in the 60s at the top, though it has been so humid this summer. This much humidity can make 70º feel hot.

It was 100° with 40% humidity when I got home from work today. I went for a ride anyway and got in just over 35 miles. Whew it was hot out there. Shade is your friend on days like this.

Well The forecast was for cooler and a 20% chance of rain. I spent most of the afternoon yesterday cleaning and maintaining the bike so 20%, no big deal. I am thinking of making it a century today, so off I go. Up Usery Pass with a stiff wind in my face Grrrr. I get to the top and the wind lets up but, Whats that wet stuff falling out of the sky? For the next 8 miles or so I got rained on. It was kinda funny, my light was shinning through the rooster tail my front wheel was making. So much for a clean bike. I got some great pictures of a sunrise at Fountain Hills. It was overcast most of the day except for the last 10 miles when the wind picked up, of course a head wind, and the sun came out. all and all it was a good ride. Here is the Garmin Connect link.
https://connect.garmin.com/activity/41531106
Very grateful for the cooler weather, only got up to 98 degrees, but was cooler than that most of the day.
