40 fun filled miles today. Decided to try bigger hills to see if my 42/24 was good enough to get me up and over. I did do it with out to much pain.

Century ride in the Shenandoah Valley (Harrisonburg, VA and environs). Beautiful cool overcast day, which was an incredible relief after our recent hot and muggy spell. About 5500 feet of climbing almost all of it in steep and energy-sapping rollers. Hitting the BRP today if it's not actually raining when I head out, and I'm not too wimpy to take my chances with the "40% chance of rain" forecast...

Still no photo? Get a cycling photo and photoshop the Sam Hill out of it. Just a suggestion.
And as for photoshopping the missing photo, wouldn't that be PhotoDoping? And huge no no in the world of internet sharing. I'm still not giving up though I will get one there for sure. |
Sunday August 1st, no ride today because I do believe the cold that has been trying to sideline me may well be just doing it. After yesterdays ride my chest was hurting a tad so I do not want to push the issue.
All this can change though if I get too bored sitting around the house. I may work on the Hotrod a little though and get her back on the road. |
Sunday 8/01
42.5 miles today. 42.5 miles this month 4160 miles this year 128 ride days LY vs. 132 ride days TY 3339 miles needed to hit 2010 goal (7500 miles) I am @ 55% of my goal. I need to be @ 66.6% (5000 miles) by the end of August 455 miles ahead of last year at this date Got out about 5:30 am today and the temp was already 81* with 86% humidity. When I got back the heat index was 98 with 74% humidity. This heat/humidity is rough on an old man like me. Tons of riders out today. |
Got out this morning with my wife on an 18 mile ride up on the BRP. Nice morning to be up there on a bike.

I raced in the 40+ Master's category at the Garret Wonders Memorial Crit in Downtown Columbus this morning that started and finished at the State Capital Building. It was a 4 turn, .89 mile course with a hill made of Belgium cobble pavers. The pave' was really a bone shaker and as we went up the stair stepped hill we would cross side streets that were made of smooth paving brick. I found that it was best to move back in the saddle and pedal around 75-80 rpm until crossing the level side streets where I would get out of the saddle and build momentum into the next section of pave'. I now see why the cobbles are such a big deal in the Paris-Roubaix Race. As the race went on my lower back started to really feel the extra effort.
Today's tally: 45 minute warm up 30 minute race 10 minute warm down $25 dollar prime to House of Sushi $100 check for 1st place in race:thumb: |
7/31 - 23.4 miles
70.3 miles today. The weather was nice not humid but temps in the low 80's when I dismount off the bike. |

We did the shop ride this morning, essentially a beginner's ride, but as there were no beginners we logged 46 mu. at an average of 17.9 mph. It was effortless and so much fun. I did a buyer walk-through inspection, and it's been relaxing patio time since then. This has been an amazing weekend. I'm all fired up for what's to come this week.

I just got back from girls' weekend at the shore in West Wildwood. I didn't bring my own bike, but I got to ride this bike.
I wouldn't trade my road bike, but it sure was fun. The wide handlebars made me feel like I was driving a bus! |

If I recall correctly, weren't those type of pants you're wearing known as "pedal pushers," and/or "clam diggers" back in the 1960's, either one appropriate for riding a beach cruiser at the seashore. :D

36 miles , it was 84° with 67% humidity. Near the end I was on the railtrail and in the shade and was thinking it was like riding on an October day, it was nice. I am guessing the wet jersey and the wind made it feel cool.
Another thing that is on my mind, riding along looking at the front wheel I look at the shifter cables and think it sure would look good without those things. I need Ultegra or the new 105. Dura Ace would be cool too but for now I will look at those shifter cables. Next upgrade will be new brifters for sure. |
Went out at 6 AM, 51 miles, Temps 75* to 94*
|
32 miles on the tandem with about 1700 ft. of climbing. Dog tired for the first 1/2 hour, but improved thereafter - probably a result of a 9 day business trip with only one 45 mile ride.

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO KEN KAYAK, OP?? Oh and as for today's ride, I did intervals again, they didn't get any easier either. I did finish the fifth one and even added a sixth but only got in about a half minute on that one. Why oh why am I starting these things. |
