Did my usual 34 boring miles today. I'm really getting tired of riding the same route, but I don't feel safe riding by myself in other parts of Atlanta. I guess it's time to get outta here. Where to move? We're thinking about Inverness, FL.

I rode yesterday--70 miles with 8600 ft of climbing which included the Blue Ridge Parkway and Mt Mitchell. It was windy and chilly. Today I walked 18 holes of what is supposed to be golf--but not sure what I was playing. I'm pretty tired.

Put in just shy of 55 miles today, after church. We had a potluck lunch after worship and I loaded up on lots of good food. I was worried it might all come back up during the ride, but I managed o.k. I added a new section that is quite hilly, but really pretty with low traffic and good shade. Cloudless skies, perfect temps and winds under 10 m.p.h. made for a nice spring ride.

I ran into a work crew resurfacing a 5-mile stretch of highway. Had to queue up with the motorists where it was single-lane and wait for the flagman to let us through. It was less than a half-mile, but the asphalt was fresh and somewhat sticky. I have not checked the frame yet for oily residue. The tires seemed no worse for wear when I got home.

Passed a really fat lizard sunning in the bike lane about halfway through.

Not today, but I rode 50 miles yesterday and 70 miles the day before...both days into ridiculously high winds which seemingly were in our faces regardless of what direction we rode. I decided that high winds are perhaps my least favorite weather-induced obstacle to cycling enjoyment: I would rather ride in light rain, snow flurries, moderate hail, or single-digit temperatures than ride in high winds.

I know, I know, I should just HTFU, I get that. Just sayin'...

My ride today was very good very hot and no wind to speak of, I rode with a couple of friends today.
Miles today: 48+
Mileage this month APRIL: 555+
Mileage this year: 2563+
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 36.6%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: -3 days
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: 210+ miles
Average miles per ride this year: 36+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 50+
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4436, this could very well be an 800 mile month (best ever) and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.

We had great weather this morning, 63⁰F when I left home at 8:00 AM and 85⁰F with no wind when I got back. Met my friend JOBO at the trail head and we rode north on the trail to Wing Field Reserve. I was telling JOBO about the deer that I had seen in their a few weeks ago and low and behold we looked up and their stood the deer. We stopped and watched them for a while before the moved off into the woods (should have taken the camera). From their it was back on the trail to Lake Mary, didn’t stop at Panera today. From there we rode through Heathrow to Orange then west on Sylvan Lake road to the trail head. We took a water break and while doing so another friend rode in and joined us. The three of us rode back to Altamonte Springs together. It was a perfect day.

Wildlife count today: 3 deer

Forgot to mention that I rode by Orlando Magic Star Dwight Howard's $8M Lakefront Home today. At 23 he is set for life.

73 on Saturday on the club ride to South Mountain (there is a 7 mile climb in the middle of the ride; mapmyride has the climb rated at cat 3 for half and cat 5 for half). I didnt feel like I had good energy for that ride. Yesterday I did 31 solo miles @ 17.3, which felt good.

Oh...! It's a 2006 Suzuki SV650S. I bought it because I liked the way it looked (bright red, which causes me trouble) an it gets over 50 MPG...

No pedals, though....

My ride today was very good very hot/humid but no wind to speak of, I rode with my usual Tuesday ride partner today.
Miles today: 57+
Mileage this month APRIL: 612+
Mileage this year: 2620+
Percent of 2011 goal achieved: 37.4%
Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: -2 days
Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +267 miles
Average miles per ride this year: 37+ (best ever)
Average miles per ride this month: 51+ (best ever)
Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 4379, this could very well be an 800 mile month (best ever) and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.

We had great weather this morning, 73⁰F when I left home at 8:00 AM and 91⁰F with no wind when I got back. Met my friend Richard at the trail head and we rode north on the trail to Mandarin then back to the trail to Panera for bagels and iced tea. We rode north through Heathrow which was very shady and cool. We then took Orange Ave. to Deer Path and turned around and headed south. We turned west on Sylvan Lake Rd to the northern trail head where we took our second break. Due to the temp getting into the 90s (my computer was reading 99) we stayed on the trail back to Heathrow and Panera where we refilled our water bottles then continued on south. We decided to add a few miles so we cut through Wing Field Reserve. As we went passed the location that I had seen the deer yesterday low and behold there they stood again. We stopped and watched them for a while before the moved off into the woods (should have taken the camera). From there it was back on the trail and home. It was a perfect day.

Wildlife count today: 3 deer. 4 Sand Hill Cranes and 2 chicks, 1 Red Tail Hawk, and 1 Black Snake and 6 wild turkeys. Although not wild life we saw lots of goats today in two different locations.

Tomorrow might be a rest day…

I rode a 27.5 mile loop with my usual riding buddy today. We kept a pretty casual pace except for a couple of fun charges on slight downhills. There was some wind, but pretty light and it was behind us most of the second half of the ride. It was warm, but not hot. Mid to lower 80s. Felt nice.

Easy 15 mile round trip for coffee on the tandem. We've got two more "training" weekends before the Wine Country Century on May 7; that should be one beautiful ride; we did about 70 miles of the course two years ago.

I rode about 2 hrs yesterday with several small climbs. Nordic ski season ended Sunday. I'll miss it, but lots of cycling,
kayaking, rollerskiing, and motorcycling will keep me in shape and entertained till next November.

Tuesday's ride .... Yes, those are slicks on the XC.

Last Sunday .... Day 61 skating at 10,000ft.... 42ft of snow this year at Breckenridge. When it melts, I get to kayak on it

Last Saturday ... Scrubbing in new Michelins on the Aprilia.

25 mile solo ride this morning. I was slightly underdressed for the 45F temps, but worse, I was completely unprepared for the super-dense fogbank that rolled in halfway through! Archetypal pea soup: I could not see 10' in front of me for the entire second half of my ride! Kinda creepy...and scarey, what with all the traffic.

Commuted again. Temp was up to low 30's this morning, from 21f yesterday. Still in recovery mode from Saturday (and Sunday)'s 400k brevet. Rode my 'bent for the first time in a while today - oh man, I LOVE that bike! (I ride a df for brevets because the 'bent is so incompatible with groups of df's and I don't like to solo for that long.)

That depends on the V-twin, IMNSHO. Some of 'em sound like effin' lawnmowers!

FWIW, the best-sounding motorcycle I've ever heard was a Goldwing 1800 (? - the flat-6 one) with straight pipes - sounded like a Ferrari V12 goin' down the street!

Not the ones I ride.. Aprilia and Ducati. My Triumph triple has an especially wicked sound... Moto GP like.

Atlantic City, this was a mini-vacation with the wifee. I took my 1985 Raleigh Competion and Prestige with me. We rode the Atlantic City Broadwalk from one end to the other.. All flat stuff, and the ride was sweet. Almost had a altercation at a McDonalds.. I locked the bikes with two locks, and eyeballing them. However, the bikes looked like jewels, and was attracting attention. No problem. However two rough looking dudes wanted to looked at them too long. Something like 10 minutes. I am watching all the time. Now, I get up, and walk out beside the bikes. Asked me how much they cost, I told them I put them together.. Then one had to touch one of the bikes. I told that is enough, no more question and don't touch. They eased on away, and came back with another big guy. They hung around for a while. My wife said she was in battle mode..

Pass that, we all had a ball. Atlantic City is flat.. We switched bikes, and kicked some speed on the streets..Life is indeed sweet..

I found money too...

Umm...a Honda CBX six, stock pipes, 1979 vintage. Pure sex!!!

Oh - I have to mention this car - the Lexus LFA - O M G....gorgeous noises from it!

BTW, I have the stock exhaust on the SV. It's subdued, but not whimpy - I rather like it!

Okay, back to the regularly scheduled programming....

;~)
