Another BTWD ride here. Actually I commuted 3 days this week. If the weather report calls for possible afternoon showers, I'll commute on my cross bike with fenders. If it looks like a nice afternoon, I'll usually go for a longer ride (and not commute) on my road bike.

Toooooo much rain this week. Looking good for this weekend though!

Went on a new loop ride today. Was bummed out all day long because it took way longer than I expected. Then again, the wind kicked up half way in and the only hill on the route is a Category 2 climb, (rather that the Cat 3 I thought it was). Just a 36-miler, but was too pooped out from the hill climb that I couldn't hammer on the downhill run back into town. Wish I had something smaller than 39/28 for that hill.

Today’s ride: Met my friend Dick at 7:30 AM this morning at the San Sebastian Trail Head and we rode to Panera Bread for breakfast. From there it was out to Seminole Heights and Deer Path. We took a break for some water then back to the Sylvan Lake Trail Head where we met Phil who rode with us back to the San Sebastian Trail Head. The temp was in the low 90s when we got back. Summer is here…

Statistics for: 05/21/2011

Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +912 miles

Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 3359, and an 8,000 mile year (best ever) is not out of reach.

An easy 25 mile ride with a few frinds. The weather along the Chicago lakefront was great and I made it home just as the rain started.

52 mile club ride today. Mostly flat but one short very steep hill near the end after most of my reserves had been used up dealing with cross- and headwinds. The tailwinds were nice, though. Good to see farmers hard at work planting their fields, after all the rain we've had this Spring.

I have been trying to ride my bike rather then take my car.
I went to the local ball field to help disabled kids play ball. I took my mountain bike. i0 miles round trip, I am worn out. I think that getting back into cycling is hard on my body. I hope it smoothes out soon.

Rode the 23.2 mile route that will be used next week for the state time trial championships. Wanted to see how I stacked up in my age group with last year's times. Well? I won't be riding an ITT next weekend. They seem use the same route every year, so I'll ride it again after my new TT bike arrives. Maybe with an aero bike, my time will be respectful. At least next year I can ride in the "walking cane - grandfather's" division.

98 Miles with 7900 ft of climbing doing the longer route of the Ruby Ride in Franklin, NC. It warmed up and I was cramping so badly I decided not to add a couple more miles. Plus the water melon at the finish had my name all over it......

The route on the century was different from last year after all. I hope it was interesting enough for you. We had 63.4 miles on the metric with around 4300' of climbing. We managed to get around in just under 4 hours (3:57).

104 miles on the CASA century ride in Shepherdstown, WV. What a gorgeous day, and fantastic roads. It was constant smallish rollers up and down and up and down. Huge fun.

Beatiful ride . First I rode to the barbershop to get a shave.. About 7 miles from my house. Got my shave, then rode 9 miles to the subway to get to downtown Baltimore. Once downtown, I rode around the inner harbor. The weather was fantastic.. I must confess, at certian parts on the inner harbor when I was on the broadwalk of the inner harbor where the pedestrans walk, and I am moving at a walking pace, I ditched my helmet and showed all the full gray!! Stopped, locked the bike ( I am on beater #2,Schwinn Prelude)got some food, sat outside, and watched the boats. Then I headed home. Awesome ride, awesome day. BTW, the bicycles now have preference over my motorcycle for fun rides..

25 miles yesterday, all in Prospect Park. 7 laps of the park plus the distance to/from. It gets a little boring, but I put a hard 25 in rather than an easy 50 since I never have to stop in the park or watch for traffic.

I rode yesterday!!!

I did it! Successfully completed my 1st TT, Crank the Kank. I took the smart approach and felt I learned a lot and with a couple planned revisits of the route over the summer we are planning to run it again next year.

Here are some of the number by my Sigma Rox 8.0 computer:

Miles: 21.82
Gain: 2284
Avg Incline: 5%
Max Incline: 7%
Avg MPH: 13.52
Max MPH: 27.70 (long false flat)
Avg HR: 157
Max HR: 167
Temp: 61.5f-70.7f

I paced my self at about 15 mph over the first 11 miles which ran about 2%-3%. Then for the next 6 miles I picked it up a bit which is where I hit the top speed of 27.70 mph for better than a half mile before I started to work it down to prepare for the final push up the last ~5 miles and about 1400' of climbing.

I got hit with a down pour about 2 miles from the top which was great as it allowed my to jump from 8 mph to 15 mph for nearly 1/2 mile. Those last ~5 miles were the toughest but I kept up a high cadence rather than trying to over power it and take a chance at blowing up.

I can't wait to try another race and redo the Kank next year.

And you can see I finished in just of 96 minutes. I placed 108, which I had to as that was the number I was assigned. Just think if they would have given me #1 I would have won!!!

25 miles this morning. 12 miles with a strong southeast wind coming off the Gulf of Mexico, the turn around and 13 miles against the wind. Averaged an easy 14 to 16mph with the wind, but against the wind was a laboring 6 to 10mph. Glad I got it in!

yeppers, got in 35 of mostly hills south of town; started about 15 minutes before sunrise and except for the flat about 4 miles out -- perfect day. Watched several antelope running by the road along the way.
