Rode after work. Nine miles of fast flowing single track on the mountain bike. My bike skills are improving, as is my confidence. Seem to be getting faster in the turns, and legs felt good on the climbs.

Skipped my usual pre-noon daily 20 miler on the bike path today in the usual 95deg. 77% humidity cause the weather guy said gusts to 35 mph (he's such a pessimist) and since it hasn't rained here in months, I'm starting to just ride around the neighborhood at night. But I'm only doing about half a dozen laps in the 84deg night breeze which feels pretty good. Looks like I've got a lot of work ahead of me to catch up with you 69 year old 40 milers...jeez. Freakin' ironmen. Don't want to be too comfortable.

Only my third ride this month. Lots of things prevented me from getting in more rides. 39 miles to the beach and back. 74 degrees sunny with a little wind. Felt good to be back on the road.

Today’s ride:

Rode to the horse farms with Dick Davidson. Had breakfast at Panera as usual. Temps in the low 90s and at one point where we stopped for a rest the bike computer hit 106 degrees. However it was in direct sunlight and on hot pavement. Even with the temps as hot as they were there were a lot of riders out. Bobby from the UPS/Discovery channel 1999 team passed me twice, ran into Chuck and Jim at the Sylvan Lake Trail Head and Sue was heading out as we were coming back.

Ride statistics for: 06/21/2011

 Miles today: 58+
 Mileage this month May: 812+ (on track for another 1,000 mile month)
 Mileage this year: 4789 (68.4 % of my 2011 goal)
 Over/under riding days 2011 vs. 2010: +10
 Over/under riding days June 2011 vs. June 2010: +3
 Over/under miles 2011 vs. 2010: +1483 miles
 Average miles per ride this month: 50+
 Average miles per ride this year: 41+
 Number of rides over 50 miles this month/total ride days this mo. 10/16
 Metric Centuries this month: 3

Miles needed to hit my 2011 goal of 7,000: 2210, and an 8,500 mile year (would be my best ever) is not out of reach. Should reach my goal by mid September.

Tomorrow will be a day off.

Usual 20 miler, very windy - headwinds - on return. Met Nora for lunch at Subway in middle of ride. Fun.

Rode my favorite and local 20mi course I call the Boyne Triangle. Rolling hills, 2 hills that are 1.2 miles long....the rest is nice flat running. Set a PR at 1:22:00.....darn near broke the 15.0mph avg mark. Held a good 20-21mph speed on intervals. Fun, fun, fun.

10 miles this morning before work. And I thought all the aggressive drivers were out in the late afternoon and on Saturdays ...

43 miles with the group today. It was pretty warm, too - unusual for the Central California Coast. I took two days off from riding (or running) after my 97 mile ride Saturday. I had legs today! I climbed well (for me), was with the faster riders for much of the ride, and took part in the finishing break and sprint, again - oh, that's fun! One of the gals intended to lead me out on the sprint (like that was gonna work!), but she came off way too soon and there was no way she could hold that speed and effort as long as she needed to, so I drifted back to the break and tried to get back on a wheel - nope. We hit 30MPH in that effort. It was fun, too!

Tuesday's is my day off from riding. I usually have dinner with my best friend since it's my wifes night to work late. I'll pick it up tomorrow if it isn't too hot. If it is, it'll be 30 miles on the trainer in air conditioning.

Spent the last couple of days riding in upstate NY (Columbia County, near Ancram). Am with my family at a rented house for a few days of vacation. Fortunately for me, there was a bike in the basement. It's an old Specialized hybrid with a comfort seat. Not exactly my ideal wheels, but hey, I'll take it. The tires were completely deflated, but there was a pump.... The chain is totally rusted, but there was some WD40....In the hopes of finding a bike to ride, I'd brought along my pedals and my shoes....

The area around here is pastoral and very hilly. The rides have been absolutely a joy - even with the somewhat crappy bike. I spotted lots of wildlife, including a fox with 3 kits. 19 miles and 2000 feet of climbing on Monday, 24 miles and 1500 feet of climbing Tuesday. Both at around 15 MPH average. Hey, it's not easy going fast on a bike with a comfort seat and such a short top tube. I'd ride for longer if it weren't for the fact that the point of the vacation is supposed to be spending time with my mother and sister.....It's raining this morning, but I'm hoping for better weather this afternoon....

23.97, went to check out how the building of a new part of the midland trail (MUP) is coming along. Was suppose to be completed 2 years ago but the funds dried up. It's getting there but it seems REALLY SLOW progress, LOL, probably be finished come WINTER!

I was looking forward to an afternoon ride after work but it looks like night time outside. I guess we really need the rain here, but I'd rather be riding.

32 miles with a friend from the club. We were expecting a couple of other guys, but one got stuck at work and the other wasn't feeling well and opted out. It was an unusually cool day compared to the recent norm, only 89 degrees at the start and dropped a few during. It was also overcast and some dark clouds blowing over created some gusty headwind in the first half of the ride. https://connect.garmin.com/activity/94226646

It looks like I'm going to be down in Athens for 5 days while my daughter does her gymnastics camp. Any chance you'll be riding Mon, Tues or Wed? Looks like it's about 1.5 hours down to your area from Athens. I guess I could make the drive one day for a morning ride if you're around.

I'll be riding a couple of those afternoons, but I'll be riding my desk at work in the mornings.

I'll bet it's a great gymnastics camp. The gym dawgs have a very impressive trophy collection. Many nat'l championships.

Road 22 miles from Manoa back home to Kailua. Stopped at Sandy beach just before sunset and watched the waves come in from the big South Swell. The road was actually a bit foggy from all the spray.

I won't be able to make an afternoon ride because I need to be back to pick her up. Why she didn't want to stay in the dorm is beyond me. She stayed in the dorm at the Alabama Camp (current Nat'l Champs) last week. I guess the GymDawg Camp is new to her where as she went to Bama last year. I forget that some 50+ actually still work. lol
