We chatted for 10 minutes and then rode side by side for several miles.

I learned he was 82 y.o. and began cycling at 72, my age. He had very recently completed a century ride at the Pan Mass Challenge; the one with Lance Armstrong and senator Kerry. His bike sported drop bars and he sported nice bike shorts. So those who worry about what kind of figure they cut while on the bike, don't worry, be happy and wear and ride what you will.
Cool. I ride with a guy who has one of those C/Ti Seven's An Elium, I think. What a sweet bike, but *spendy*. But the guy I ride with is maybe 40 and a hammerhead. If the 82 y.o. gent cares enough about riding to buy that kind of bike, he must be either quite serious or simply rich.

Yeah - a fast club ride with the "A" riders. About 36 miles in all. It was OK, but for some reason, my heart wasn't in it tonight. There were some fun pulls and sprints and we did a few challenging climbs as fast as we could, but towards the end i felt a little nonplussed. There were just a few miles left and someone started pulling like a madman - maybe 26 MPH and though I COULD keep up, I just didn't want to. I wasn't wasted and my legs weren't cooked, but I just didn't have the enthusiasm to hammer. So I slid out of the paceline and let everybody go. Stopped at a convenience store to get a cold drink and then rode home at a modest 18-19 MPH, feeling somehow dejected. A little weird.

Another typical 15 mile after work ride at the MUP yesterday. Almost got caught in what looked to be like a downpour but it just sprinkled and went away. I'll do another ride after work today if the rain holds out. I don't know how Irene is going to affect our weather here on the west cost of Florida.

I can relate, MinnMan...not to 25mph...I ride alone...but two days ago I simply couldn't ride any distance. At all. Yesterday I did 65. All psychological.

Played the role of Bike Commuter today - 20 miles. Lots and lots of motorcycles in Downtown Indy for the Moto GP at the Speedway this weekend. Didn't notice anyone who looked like Brando in The Wild One.

Mildred: Whatre you rebelling against, Johnny?
Johnny: Whaddya got?

Another typical 20 mile after work ride. Headwinds were very strong this afternoon. When the headwinds hit, I went from 18 mph to 13 mph in just a few turns of the pedal. Although a great ride, it felt as if I did twice the miles that I actually did. I'll be out again tomorrow morning with the wife and hopefully get in a 40 miler.

Rode what was supposed to be an easy 20. Came to the realization that the rear cluster I used in so fl is no friggin good up here in Maine. Need a better range and a couple candy gears on the rear. I was standing on the cranks on some of those climbs. Damn near killed me. Not 27 anymore. My body HURTS

1 mile in the hills = 2 miles on a flat surface according to my calculations

My wife joined me on the tandem for a ride around the airport with some of the club. May go out for some hill work later.

This happens on my group rides also. I like keeping the pace up, but I don't like the "crushing souls" aspect of faster group rides.

A good 41 miles this AM at the wilderness park. Forgot my PBJ's so the last lap wasn't quite as vigorous as the previous laps. A few extra stops were needed to keep from bonking. Headwinds got very strong on the last lap and, along with the heat index climbing, it made it even harder. Tomorrow may just be an easy 15-20 mile ride on the hybrid with the wife since she has to be at work at noon.

Attempted to do a Medium (50 miles) club ride this morning but got lost and did an honest metric Century instead! Didn't quite measure up to the Long ride (63.4mi vs 65mi).

We put in 30 miles on the tandem, just heading out on different trails and bike lanes. Stopped at East Coast Deli for a excellent sandwich and took the old path way home. HOT today 90+ and we both felt it but as usual we enjoyed our ride, this tandem thing is FUN!

61 miles including 46 in a nice group ride. IT was a small group - 6 of us for the first 28 miles, then 5 of us after the rest stop, long/short bifurcation. I know all of them pretty well, though I rode with some of them more last year than this one. Because it was a modest-paced ride compared to many of those that I've been doing these last few months, I did a significant amount of the pulling. It felt just fine and I enjoyed the company also.

15 miles, moved from D to C, or maybe C-, pace. Really only been riding regularly for 3 months so I'm satisfied. I did get passed by a guy 10 years younger but 50 lbs (easily) heavier. I noticed we were spinning about the same, but he was one gear higher than I wished to do... for now. His calves were the size of my thighs.

36 mile social group ride today with my girlfriends. This tends to be a chatty ride, but there were some efforts, some climbing, and some really fun descents. My pink bar tape made it's debut today! It didn't make me any faster, though :~(

No, he was not on today's ride. It was warm; 87 @ 5:45, and must have been 98-100 9:30 - 10:00 when we finished. It was a 51 mile ride, and I rode from my house to the start. We had a mix of A and B riders, so there was a group that pushed it a bit harder (I was not part of that group). I have to confess I bonked at the end; I could feel myself losing energy with about 7 miles to go. With one block to go (to the bagel shop after the ride) I felt light headed and had to sit on the sidewalk. A friend from the club put me and my bike in his truck, and then took me home after the bagel.

I should have ate the Hammer gel pack at our last stop 10-12 miles from the end. I wont make that mistake again.

No. Some times a person gotta do what a person gotta do. Like taking everything out of the office including the carpet and pad in preparation for hardwood floor, and new paint. Believe me I would rather be on the bike. Looks like next week I will be painting and laying a new floor.

After the short tandem ride this morning, I spent most of the day in the house and then went out to do some hill work in the late afternoon. The cool, calm morning gave way to a hot day with a steady 8-10 mph wind. I rode 2o miles, climbing a hsort but steep nearby hill 4 times.

I did a slow, windy, extremely hot birthday ride - 55.6 slow unpleasant miles. 90.7 average temp with about 20 miles into a 15-20 mph blowtorch wind. The kind of ride that's not much fun.
