My ride today: https://energizedandonabike.blogspot.com/
I missed our tandem ride but appreciate that cgallagh needed to chill. Meantime, I think I'm peaking, just in time for the end of the season. Thumbs up and thumbs down.

I rode from Toutle, Washington to the Johnston Visitor Center in Mt St Helens National Monument and back for 85 miles and 5000 ft of climbing. It was a perfect day, cool in the morning for most of the climbing, slight cloud cover lifted off of St Helens when I got to the view point, so grand views of the mountain volcano.

Sore saddle cyclist
The Federal Government built a new road into the National Monument from I-5 and it is fantastic. It has smooth pavement and a very wide shoulder all the way up to Johnston Visitor Center, where the facilities are just beautiful. It's a classic PNW ride, you should do it, it's a nice way to experience the mountain and the eruption. It's a mountain ride, so you are either going 8 or 38 mph, but being an out and back ride you get equal parts of each. Highly recommended ride.

Usual commute to-from school. Was warmer than usual this morning, but humidity had me sweating a lot. Rain on the ride home, but items trunk pack and saddle bags stayed dry, and I figured out how to mount my extra rear lights on the bags (just tore a small hole through the plastic garbage bags I use as rain shields).

Did my standard 18 mile ride today - from home around Lake Calhoun and back. I don't usually time my ride but I was listening to some tunes from a playlist that is 67 minutes long, and by happenstance, it ended just as I pulled into my garage. Therefore 18 miles/67 minutes=16 MPH. Either I'm making progress or listening to Mingus propelled me a little faster today.

Tuesday 8/25/09... Good solo 38.10 mile ride today. The temp was 75 degrees at 5 am when I started this morning with the humidity at 92% and mid 80s when I finished. The upside of the ride was I beat the heat and rain again today and I felt like I could have gone for a full 100. Breakfast at Panera was great.
All is well in slo spoke Jims' household.

12.4 miles this morning. Not enough light to get in a ride before work after this week. I will be back to running on weekdays, until next May.

Got out this morning for my Tuesday interval session. Today's 4 min intervals were much more consistent than last week's though neither the best rep or the session average were as good. I had a sticky cable that made shifting sluggish which I'm sure affected the power average. Oh well, I need new cables.

Rode 5.6 miles on the folder Sunday testing the bike for squeeks and other adjustments I made. No ride to report yesterday. Did 51.4 miles this morning taking advantage of the very nice weather starting with the temps in the low 60's and ending the morning ride with temps in the upper 70's. I'm on phase to do 600+ miles for August with a possibility of breaking 700 weather permitting.

I cycled 44 miles today and as of this morning I have lost 47 pounds in the last 5 months. 10 more and I should be at my goal weight. But as for now I am tired and bed awaits.

33 miles on a loop down to the Washington D.C. monuments/Potomac trails and Hains Point. I've done this loop so many times it makes me cry.
But I rode it on my brand new bike, so it was like all things were new again!

Don't mince words
Last evening I let myself be suckered into my team's ride (famous last words: "We have 2 races this weekend so we won't kill ourselves. We'll soft-pedal this ride."
)
I sat in longer than I have this year yet, but when 26 mph & 114 rpm didn't close a small gap I stopped riding the suicide pace. Eventually I rode upon others who were dropped and we formed a smaller, slower group.
32 miles, 17.9 mph avg. Whew.

I came back from vacation Saturday, and Monday's commute was my first bike ride in 17 days. We stayed on a small, roadless island where all transportation was by boat or foot.
It's about a 20 mile round-trip commute. Traffic, needless to say, seemd very unfamiliar to me, as does pavement. After more than two weeks of walking, it was like everything was on fast forward as I rode. It reminds me of the first time I rode a bike -- that feeling of effortlessly gliding over the ground.
This weekend, I will drive my car for the first time in three weeks. I wonder how that will seem.

It's raining out and I'm not in the mood to ride soooooo, I'm taking the bride on a little Road Trip. I think we'll drive through the Finger Lakes Area and the NY Southern-tier in the S-10. No wise cracks here....she'll be up front with me in the lap of luxury.....Radio, CD player, heat/air, DRY.....I hope I don't get too spoiled and loose interest in biking.

Maybe I'll ride a bike tomorrow, maybe a DF!
EDIT: 08:30p.m.
Oh never mind. I rode after all. We drove to Angelica NY and did some antiqueing, had a leisurly dinner and came home. I still had enough daylight left for a quick 20 miles around town!
Life is good, some times.

It has been a cooler than usual August is Southern California up until now. I rode my usual commute yesterday. It got up to 103 today on the first heat spell of the season. I decided not to ride today.

50.56 miles with 5 others from my club. 3300 feet of climbing. It got a little warm, but we were back by noon, so it wasn't too bad.

Got out for my first 30s intervals of the year. I guess I did them ok as I almost puked after the last one.
I'm really not very good at these, maybe because I almost never do them. You would think I could average more than 700w for 30s. But these are done at about 98% effort in the interest of getting the reps done. Maybe in a one off all out effort I could eek out a bit more. The whole workout was only 11.5 miles in 53 min of riding. Tomorrow I'll do just a short ride with a few high cadence drills to loosen the legs for the long rides this weekend.

0 miles yesterday and today due to rain. I wish there will be a nice day or two left for August to make 600 miles for the month. Just shy of 69 miles to meet that goal. I can forget the 700 now and maybe wish for it next year.

I rode a mountain bike loop today /the trail was wet in places and had been beat up by the 4wheelers that were prohibited just for that reason but I still enjoyed my ride in this cool forest setting now that the horseflys are not so bad./Kenneth
