It was a lovely 90 degrees when I showed up for the club's weekly downtown ride at 5:30 today. Only three of us showed up. We had a really nice ride around town and through some nearby residential areas. Despite the high temps, we had a cold front move through recently and it has left us with much lower humidity than normal. 30% may not seem dry to some of you from the west, but it's downright arid for a late June evening in Georgia. Our two hour ride left us with only a light touch of sweat and an energized feeling. I think I'll be ready for a good MTB ride in a couple of days. It has been a long time since I played hard in the dirt.

Heading over to Cade's Cove in Smoky Mtn NP early tomorrow with friends and kids for a ride around the loop. Hopefully we'll see a few bears, deer and turkey on the 10 mile loop. We'll have a picnic lunch after the ride and go for a dip in the swim hole at the Townsend Y. Kind of a laid back day.

I slogged through my nine hour work day today, hopped on my Stratus XP as soon as I got home, and headed for nearby country roads by myself. It was cloudy, and sprinkled on and off the entire ride, a nice break from the heat we've been having. I ended up with 40 miles exactly.

Rode at Hellyer Velodrome - warmup, 100 meter jumps, a few team pursuits and then I did two 2K solo pursuits with my coach on the infield with a stopwatch. I am getting ready for the Masters District Track Championships in the weekend after next. It was a beautiful day at the track.

Maybe it was 4 - or was it 7 folks? One may have been 21 and another 85?
It might have been 51 miles - I get those number reversed at times. And, just maybe we went to Wendy's, and it might have been yesterday - or maybe tomorrow??

Severe storm warning this afternoon kept me inside; but by 5pm the sun was shining and I drove over to the Oley Valley, in Berks County, PA. Put battery charger on father in laws car, he has only driven a few 3 mile trips in last 3 months and battery died from lack of charge. I then rode for 22 miles. Passing quite a few cyclist in other direction. Valley is a very popular place to ride. I had a herd of 10 deer cross road in front of me...about 75 yards away, with the last one about 30 yards away. The way they were running down the hill on my left, I'm thinking they may have run me over if I was faster....or may be not.

Don't mince words
Guess I need to add some hill pictures to my blog. I ride 3 miles from my front door to a T intersection. If I go left (west and north) I go to the hills. If I go right (north and east) I'm in the flats. Good rides no matter what combination I choose.

Back on topic: Rode with the club tonight vs. the team. The group broke up into fast and not-so-fast. I stayed with the fast group, pulled over the hill where I've been dropped the last 6 rides, and blew up.

After the regroup I had no trouble staying on, taking pulls, and not blowing up. Avg. speed was 18.1 mph and for me, that's a training ride.

I wouldn't call myself a roadie. I have always mixed my time between road riding and dirt. Same went for my long ago days as a motorcyclist. I could never choose which I liked the most so I do both. I love riding singletrack on my Stumjumper FSR just as much as riding country roads on my Bridgestone RB-1.

I forgot My ride today was a dismal light rain 20 mi coastal affair. I did find out one truth from one of those positive folks that lerk around the forums spouting there stuff about milkweed along the roadside and fields of waving grain This positive guy told how much he liked the warm rain in New York city/I will say the rain in Maine today wasnt off its usual ice burg/Kenneth

Warmed up for 20 minutes then rode the Kennard Road hill 6 times with 6 to 7 minute recovery between reps. Finished up by riding for 30 minutes to cool down. Total miles 27.7. The Kennard Road Hill is a 1.2 mile defining point in the Medina Twin Sizzler race on July 4th.

Went to the cycling gym tonight and did constant power high cadence intervals on my track bike and recovered on my TT bike on the trainer Did 10 minutes of 110 cadence recovery. It is always interesting that after spinning 110 for awhile 100 seems slow. Life of a trackie getting ready for a pursuit race.

Are you kidding! It's freakin raining again. I think we have had maybe 3 good days for all of June and now the first week in July is more of the same. I've got 80 miles in for the entire month! The one good weekend we had, I had to catch up on yard work. God I hate New England.
