Yield sign

Today was an experiment. I loaded the panniers with food and clothing for a weekend camping trip and Camel Bak with the tent. Me @ 260 lbs, the bike @ 40 lbs, Panniers @ 30 lbs and the Camel bak 16 lbs. About 346 Lbs total
I set out on a 44 mile trek North into a 15 mph biting north wind at 6:15 am. Temp was about 36 and warmed to 48along the way. I really like sunrises. I chose a major artery (route 59 @ New Cany, TX) and used the frontage road.
As vehicles passes me they would interrupt the wind and it would swirl around me. I needed to hang on.

The obligatory incident: at the yield sign I was approaching an intersection where the other drivers were , according to the sign, to yield to traffic in my lane. I signaled with my right arm as i was going to the berm. And had a better thought why don't i look first as i turned to look over my right shoulder a pickup flies past his yield sign at about 60mph. The intersection was a left handed curve and it was difficult to get into a position to look. From now on I will stop there to be sure.

I continued on into the wind but not quite gone with the wind
As planned I made it to the campground a few minuets ahead of my 2:00 pm pick up time The route was uphill so I did well at 6.9 mph average. During the trip in had about 45 minutes off the saddle.

Data recorded to be analized

Very little riding this week. Two miles today! 20F and windy but the streets remain clear. Found that some oldish Goretex over-mitts really help when worn over moderately warm gloves.
Supposed to be sunny and up almost to freezing tomorrow.

45 miles on a cold (by my standards) and very windy day. 20+ mph headwind for the final 20 miles. The wind was whipping me around so much it was just silly at times. A stop at Maebob's Diner at 18 miles for coffee and sweet potato pie made it all worthwhile.

I got a dozen miles in today, after a few days of cold, rain/snow and no riding. https://retrocycler.blogspot.com/2012/02/mohar.html

The RD still worked. It's supposed to have 100 or so shifts available after that point. I was close enough to the start that I just turned around. If you run it down to the point where the RD won't shift you can manually put it in one gear and just ride that one. And hope there's no hills...

We did the 100K at the Tour of Palm Springs. Temps were fine, but the headwinds for the first hour were brutal; I think I was in our small chainring on a 2% grade. I'd guess the wind might have been 25-30 mph. Heading downhill, downwind on a very minor grade we hit 45 mph coasting.

Perhaps foolishly, I went on a 30 mile group ride with 5 other people...with temps at 26°F and wind speeds averaging 30mph, the wind chill was somewhere around 14°. I must be insane.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, uh no, did not ride today

wishing I could have though, but the day started at 19*, never got above 26 and looked like this outside for a good part of the day.

I did enjoy the Pebble Beach National Pro-Am today as Phil Mickelson kicked butt on Tiger all day.

Yesterday, rode the regular out and back, North-South route. Winds finally abated somewhat and swung to the South. It was cool but comfortable with a long sleeved jersey, a sweater and a wind jacket with tights over the shorts. Good day over all and, today it is raining, hope it breaks before afternoon so I can ride after my optometrist appointment.

10.5 miles of intervals early this morning...one of those sprints was unintentional, motivated by a skunk that ran out into the road and decided my clanking chain was a threat!

23 miles again today. Fought a bloody wind around 20mph today. Hand is doing fine. Didn't get out until 1:30 since I had a bunch of errands to do--one being personally delivering a dozen roses to the wife at the school where she teaches.

Killer head and cross winds today at the MUP. Had a cross wind that gusted and darn near had me on the ground. All-in-all, it was good for a 31 mile ride in otherwise great weather.

Yesterday, mid twenty's, winds over 30mph, snowed almost four inches.

Today, mid fifties, no wind, no clouds. Rode 22 miles, beautiful day!

If you live in Arkansas and don't like the weather, just wait a few minutes.
It will be totally different.
