Did a nice, casual 39 miler with a coworker this morning. Little traffic, a light wind out of the north, riding 2 abreast most of the time and talking. No stops, finished with a 16.2 average.

Glad you enjoyed the ride. That is my favorite riding area because there are so many quiet roads. I enjoyed a few big ring sections myself but I was cramping toward the end. My first anti-cramp treatment at lunch did not help but a newer and better pill in my second attempt, that contains some quinine, worked wonders. Better living through chemistry I say.

If you ride that area again, a fine picnic location is Demarest Lloyd State Park, not far from the general store.

After four days off the bicycle on a motorcycle trip, I got back and put in a fast paced 30 miler this afternoon. I was a little dehydrated and cramped up a bit on the return legs but with a refill of the water bottle I managed to tough it out and ended up with the fastest paced training ride of the year.

Hoping for my first pie ride since I started cycling again, next weekend. I signed up for a half century and will make a point to put in an extra six miles.

15 miles on the badger trail. As time goes on, I find myself doing more and more trail miles and consequently fewer road miles. As I've immediate access to over 100 miles of rail trail that is not the worst thing and its a great way to beat the heat and wind.

Just a nice 22mi. workout on one of my favorite rural routes. We've had only single digit wind speeds the last few days and I'm beginning to wonder if we're in Kansas any more Toto!?!? Probably shouldn't complain the wind will be back soon enough.

I only had a little over an hour at home after work before I had to go back to town for my son's HS band banquet. That gave me time for a 10 mile ride on the fixed gear bike and a shower.

32.5 miles today.

Today was supposed to be a washout, but weather was looking and predicted to be better for a short window. Planned to try and fit 23 miles in before the threat of thunderstorms. At around 12 miles there was some drops of rain so I decided not to chance it and cycled 3.5 miles back home(this was annoying as I had my best avg pace ever at this point in the ride, 17.8mph avg. So, I got home and put the bike away, started to strip but it looked like it was clearing up. I checked weather.com for my zip code and sure enough, the threats were going to be later. I quickly got the gear back up, scarfed down a breakfast bar and drank 16 oz of water. Hopped back on the bike to get at least another 12 miles which ended up being another 17 miles. Managed to work in a total of 32.5 miles today even though it was interrupted. Unfortunately, the second part of the ride, the 17 miles, was not as good a pace, only 16.8. I think if it had been one continuous ride I would've managed at least 17.4 as an overall avg, but I'm just guessing.

I feel kind of sheepish posting my number for today. Only 7.25 miles, however, that averages out to 14.5 miles per hour so I think I did pretty good.

7.25 miles further than I rode today.

I want to ride tomorrow, but I'm feeling kinda beat up physically, maybe because this is the most mileage I've ever done this early, or I'm still getting my bent legs, or I'm just getting old and can't handle it anymore. It's a bit depressing. I'll see how I feel in the AM.

27 mile fitness ride on the road bike. Tonight was slightly slower than normal. I need to pick up the pace on the flatter sections.

I put in 20 miles this evening on the local MUP. The following is from my post in the "War Stories" thread.

Category Wipeout
Date - This evening 5/15/2012 ..as I said this evening!
Location Local MUP Wichita, Ks.
Bike - Gazelle Champion Mondial

They are doing roadwork next to one section of my favorite MUP and have the path blocked off. Tonight I took a short cut through the little league baseball parking lot. I was just coasting and watching pedestrians when I was exiting the lot and headed back for the MUP, I hit a patch of gravel. For a split second I was Jay Springsteen broad-sliding my way through turn four at the Springfield Mile. It couldn't last! I ended up sliding on my hip and got a strawberry on my right elbow for my trouble. As folks began gathering around I flipped off my toe clips, righted myself, checked the bloody elbow and sprinted away to more calls of "are you alright?"

I guess my Bontrager slicks weren't made for gravel! Since the bike seems to be OK, I guess the only casualties were my elbow and my dignity.

Motivated by "Bike to Work Week", I had my son drop me and my bike off at work today. The club has a Tuesday MTB ride at some trails with some mild doubletrack, so I rode by there on my way home and did 6 miles of trail riding before continuing on the roads to home. It's nice having such a versatile bike as my monstercross to ride.
https://app.strava.com/rides/8614494

Planning to do the same tomorrow, but taking the fixed gear bike which I'll ride to downtown for the Ride of Silence.

I have way way too much to do today, but when I got up it was 70F, clear blue sky and gentle breeze. Anyone who wouldn't want to ride in that would be a Communist, so off I went.

I rode down to Floyd Fork Park, 9.5 miles from my house. It's part of the greater Louisville greenway, a very carefully planned system of parks and MUPs that will encirle the fair city.

It's on the outskirts of Da Boonies:

I camped out for a few moments and enjoyed my breakfast bar in near solitude:

I really need to carry a better camera than I have on my iPhone 3S.

Anyway, 22 miles or so. Now that the roadies have invaded, I'm getting pummeled on all the Strava segments. Oh well.
