9 miles, taking my wife's "commuter" bike to the LBS for new chain and back. LOL, it was like an, elephant riding a tricycle, (Yes I put the seat up all the to the safe max)! There are times that being "car free" is a PIA!

Well darn it.

I had a meeting with new employers that I missed because my stoopid iPhone dropped the appointment because I "upgraded" to iCloud. Talk about getting off on the wrong foot.

Anyway, I went on a lunchtime ride, 17 sunny miles. I didn't know, until I took a detour, that my house is 4 miles from the Amgen plant. I intend to drop by and see if I can get some free samples of stuff that will make me go faster.

Not that I really need it. My average speed was so high I had to turn the data over to Big Blue for advanced computation. Maybe I'll post it later.

The rain broke enough today to let me get in a 30 mile ride. We've had 4" of rain since Friday with more to come.

Today was one of those days that the legs just did not have any strength. I began the ride with the intention of a fairly short distance of about 25 miles or so, but also with the intention of pushing the pace a bit. The distance came out about right at 23 miles but the pace was worst than slow. It was pathetically slow. I think my best plan for tomorrow is to take the day off.

John, I am in your shoes now. Rain for the 3rd straight day and more the entire weekend. I am having withdrawals and will squeeze in a minimum of 10 miles if it is rain without close lightning. Bad bicycle riding jones, can't function well......

About 29 miles starting around 7:30 this morning. I and my friend (on his Barchetta recumbent) rode one of our standard routes but in the reverse direction we usually go. A little head wind in the final third of the ride. We were riding early to catch the cool(er) air and avoid forecast rain. Even in my poor-to-middlin' shape, I can tell I've not ridden in three weeks. I was out of town two weeks ago and sure wanted to last Saturday since it was a gorgeous calm bluebird day. But I was oncall and couldn't afford to be 'unresponsive' if I got paged. Grrr. Hopefully I'll be able to continue next weekend.

A group ride today. Like any group ride, it had its ups and its downs. Too many ladies screeching at every pothole and pebble for my liking.

Beautiful day, and met a guy my age who let out a rebel yell every time we pushed 20 on the flats. I hope I meet him again. He was cool.

Interesting about the obsession with average speed among recreational cyclists. On the open road we could pull 18-20 easy. At first I thought it was due to wheel sucking, but they finally made me do my turn and it wasn't a problem to maintain. OTOH we came to a dead halt at each and every stop sign in Sellersburg and Utica. It killed my average speed. The DOD called me and warned me not to go that slow again.

Anyway, 33 bent-friendly miles.

No miles today after getting caught in the rain the past two days. It's like April in New York. Rains every day. Should have stayed in South Florida.

I did not ride today. I went for a walk instead. Yes, a walk. It was tough going but I stayed with it. I did intervals walking fast for 100 yards , then strolling for 50 yards and kept that up for 2 miles. I'm bushed. Club ride tomorrow where I'll see the performance impact of today's workout.

Did an 80 miler today. About 50 miles with the group and everyone quit around 50 except my best friend and I who both went 60 miles at avg 18.5 mph. He is in his 70's and I'm almost 59. At 60 miles I did another 20 miles solo.

Always like outdoing all the 20-30 year olds For once their was very little wind in south TX, but the temp was 100 when I finished. Rain, what is rain seems like it never rains here.

Sunday morning hope to do at least 50 or more. Nice weather here for riding today except the heat. Sunday is expected to be even hotter.

So that's your recumbent? Hardly seems fair!

NealH and I met in Marion, NC this morning to ride up to the upper parking lot on top of Mt. Mitchell. Our route followed the Assault on Mt Mitchell route and we had 56.9 miles and my Garmin recorded 6700' of climbing (though it is probably 3-400' low). We had great weather for a ride up the highest mountain east of the Rockies though it was cool at the top - 55º. We needed to take pages from a magazine and place them inside our jerseys for the descent. Beautiful ride! There were lots of cyclists out on the route today too.

View up towards Mt. Mitchell in the clouds, still 1400' above us.

Sorry Bill. I think we reversed roles this weekend. It was sunny all day here in Tampa, although rain was predicted for most of the day. I was able to get in a six mile neighborhood ride with my wife this morning. I had planned to go to the MUP afterward, but we ended up going to Home Depot looking for materials to fix up the Transit. I hope to star working on it this week, if I can get my brother to come out and help me with some of the lifting. Still have some problems lifting with the right arm.

Well Pensacola/Ecsambia County are getting a literal flood, as is Mobile, AL and the I-10 corridor, today and most likely tomorrow. 10"-12" are forecast by tomorrow evening. Rest of the week looks bad too. Low is circulating in the Gulf south of here and is pumping moisture up our way. Riding will be by paddling I suppose.

Went for a ride with my son's friend, he's a "B" rider. Headed out around 7:30am and went north to Jericho and then came back another way. 26.2 miles in 1:40 averaged 15.8mph.

Volagi (small bike company in Cotati, CA) held a Solidarity ride today. The big kids rode the Century with 8000' of climbing. I was smarter than that and rode the 61.8 mile, 5000' training wheel version. Total ridership was probably in the neighborhood of 70. Volagi had pastry/muffins/coffee at the start, a mini-rest stop at the 1/2-way point and a DIY burrito at the finish. All this for a grand total of zero dollars. The owners and employees have been long-time cyclists and really believe in the industry and their product. They have survived being sued by Specialized (Specialized was awarded $1) and I'm really hoping they survive and prosper. Their disc-braked road bike has some unique features and is geared toward those riding longer distances.

It was a gorgeous late Spring day in Sonoma county, the course was well-marked (yes, they marked the course!) and the folks on the ride were friendly. The route can be found here. The climbing didn't include anything epic, but there were plenty of long enough steep pitches with max grade of 16%, shown here. I don't think I need a triple, but I might consider replacing my 11-32 with an 11-34 (of 11-36) just for grades over 12%.

It's hard enough for me to get a Cliff bar out of my jersey, but I managed to get the camera out once and took a picture of Dillon Beach, our closest approach to the Pacific Ocean:

30 minutes on the trainer -- in the middle of summer. Unbelievable.

I've been off the bike (again) for two weeks because of complications following surgery. No way I can ride outside. Even the trainer was a stretch. I'll try for an hour today...
