25.6 hot miles this morning on the Savanna Trail. Too hot to go the full 30 miles that I normally ride. Thanks to the farmer that was irrigating his bean field and was spraying a mist across the road. Went through the mist at a crawl speed and it felt so good that I had to turn around and do it two more times. Too bad it only lasted about a mile before it evaporated.

20miles on the roadand it was hot! Glad I didn't decide to go longer as I was getting a little queasy near the end. Stretching, food, a shower combined with a short nap in my ac'd bedroom did wonders for me. I think, however, I'll take a break for until the weather drops back into the 80's hopefully my sat or sun.

Met up with Pilky for a fine ride of 35 miles along the Sakonnet River and Buzzards Bay. Temps got to 91 F (32.3 C) but we stopped numerous times to admire the view and it was bearable. I had the bike panniers loaded with a nearly full touring load of 25 pounds.

Thursday rode in the afternoon's heat and humidity. Slight south breeze, to cool things a bit, coming off of the Gulf, but at least no thunderstorm hit us. Just a moderate pace with even cadence. Good to ride after missing 2 days.

No ride today - it's been very hot here in central New Jersey. Yesterday afternoon, when it was about 95(!), I did 9 miles at at a 10 mph pace. Felt real good!

Have you been to Adamsville Country Store? I have not been there in a couple of years, but they did have a few tables in the back room and made excellent deli style sandwiches.

Rode my usual route this afternoon. Very pleasant this time, mild 83*F temp and mid range humidity, 65% by my cheap-o gauge. I wanted to ride early this morning but we had strong line of thunderstorms move through early this morning, lots of lightning causing several house fires and downed trees from the wind gusts. Saw a pine tree across a major 4 lane highway coming home form the office, fell on to a truck crushing the driver's side roof and door top.

2many, I don't think I have been. Once I'm under way I almost always tend to stop only to admire the view or for food that I bring. I also freeze water bottles and cover them with a fleece bottle cozy that provides cold drinks the entire ride so little need to stop. One of these days I'll sew up some wind block fleece the will keep the cold even better. There is one store that I can't remember the location (somewhere in Westport/Adamsville area) but the sign says it is the oldest general store in America. I don't know if that is true but if it is, New England is where it would be.

Just my commute today, but apparently it is 1 mile longer last time. I put a new computer on my bike and it is saying that my commute is 15.5 miles, not the 14.47 miles my old computer was saying.

I have that problem with some bikes. I'll end up riding 14 miles on my 12.5 mile commute.

28 miles this morning by myself. Had a slightly aggravating start, since I discovered as I was taking my bike off the hitch rack that my bottles were still at home in the 'fridge.... But, I picked up a pair of PowerAides at a convenience store about 5 miles into my ride, so I was OK after all. Not (yet) too hot and basically no wind.

I'll have to take a look at my RD this afternoon; I think a slight adjustment is needed since the indexing misses by a hair here and there, and there's a little tick from time to time.

What a difference three hours makes.

I left the house with my sil at 0820 and got 30 miles in, temps in the 90s which felt cool and refreshing. It hit 100 as we pulled in to the driveway.

I thought I had a good shot at a Strava segment, so in the middle of the ride, and after telling my sil what I was doing, I blasted over a segment, firing by a cyclist like she was standing still, and finished the segment with blood dripping out of my ears.

The other cyclist then steadily cruised by me. She either realized I was chasing a segment, or just thought I was nuts.

Anyway, I moved up to 35 out of 116 so I was pretty happy with it.

I went on my near daily early morning toodle around town and grocery run. Today though, I was also testing out my newly acquired Canon Powershot A590 IS camera. It's about time I joined the modern era of digital photography. I bought it "used" from amazon for less than $50 US, and was only supposed to get a bare camera. When I got it however, it was brand spanking new, in an unopened box, with all the goodies and a warranty card!

For today, I toodled down to Downtown Wood River, past City Hall, and down to the MCT bus station, before turning around and heading back to get frozen veggies and milk. (The joy of going early in the morning is that, not only is street traffic very light, but I have the store almost to myself!)


This camera takes much better pictures than that Olympus I'd borrowed a while back.

31.2 miles on the Savanna Trail. Decided to do some sightseeing on the way back so it actually took me a little longer to do my ride. Also ran into a nice headwind that helped cool things down, and made the ride a lot more enjoyable. We leave for home on Tuesday, stopping at some friends house on the way, so I may only get two more rides on this trail.

I rode 38 mi on the Schuylkill River Trail near Valley Forge National Park in southeastern Pa. The heat wave which baked the Midwest and Ohio Valley the last two days has moved east. I made sure to start my ride early and drink plenty of water throughout the ride. I am fortunate in that about 40% of my favorite route is shaded, so that helped a lot.

Found out that the local Saturday morning early riser ride at the local bike club decided to move the start time from 7:30am to 7:00am for July and August. I didn't get the email so I put in a 45 mile solo ride this morning. Oh well!

Comfortable temperatures and almost no wind.
