It's been absolutely perfect weather for cycling here in Central Florida and I'm still off the bike. Good news is that I have been driving my pickup, which has a standard transmission, and depressing the stiff, clutch pedal has not caused the tendinitis in the knee to flare up. Maybe that's a sign that I'll be back riding again sooner than expected. Keeping my fingers crossed. I go back to the docs on the 19th. The bad news is that I've gained almost 8 pounds since the first of October because of not riding (three weeks in IL for family issues and then the tendinitis).

I made it on TV as a cyclist yesterday. What cred.
I dragged my daughter out to the grand opening of Beckley Creek Park and was asked to give an interview for a local TV news station. It was briefly used. They also had a clip of the two of us looking like enthusiastic cyclists. It was pretty cool.
I was on my MTB because I wanted to check out the new MTB trail there. I expected gentle sloping gravel paths, and encountered very nice virgin single track that left me coughing up bits of lung as I tried to climb out of a valley.
I'm also really sore today, my neck and shoulders are killing me, reminding me why I've been riding a recumbent for exactly one year.

Finally after 28 days I got some miles in. 38 to be exact. Beautiful weather here on the east coast, and since I had the day off I was able to get out there for the miles. Didn't break any speed records, rolled an 18.6 mph ave.
Hopefully I'll get more days like this in November.

18 easy miles on the vintage bike. A 25 mph headwind made the last 6 miles a little more work than I was expecting.

Went to a play last night and thus didn't get to bed until much later than my usual time--slept until 8am, Yikes! Finally got out to ride, 09:30, 42 miles(actually weird riding in daylight).

Two nice 'n' easy smell-the-roses rides in the slighly rolling SE Louisiana countryside with friends while attending the 30th annual Deep South Regional Star Gaze: https://www.sportstracklive.com/track...porary-/827286 and https://www.sportstracklive.com/track...porary-/827287. The weather couldn't have been better: 60 to 70-ish with dappled sunlight and light breezes. Wish I was there now, instead of going back to work tomorrow...

Did 34 miles, 1400' of climbing with my #1 son who is recovering from a broken hip six weeks ago. He now feels great on the bike with some pain walking. He's lost some conditioning (he's a Cat 2), but I really admire his determination to get back to racing. Of course his "lost some conditioning" is way, way stroner than this old bag of bones. Still, very enjoyable. I'm sure I'll get to do some riding with him over the winter.

19.3 this morning... ave. temp: 41 degrees - no wonder I was cold... but at least it was dry.
Knee warmers helped, but they don't really stay up all that well - I'll probably have to just get some long pants - Doing my part to stimulate the economy.

The return run was a blast except that I was run off the road. Thankfully I had just come out of a climb and wasn't going fast. The road has virtually no shoulder and I was as far to the right as I could possibly get. When the SUV went by very close (no cars coming by the way) someone yelled out the window startling me and I jinked to the right (a sharp drop) when the bike dropped off the edge it jammed the left pedal into the asphalt hard enough that it jerked the wheel around and jamed the tire into the right side chain stay. I'm hoping it didn't bend anything. Still thanking the Good Lord I stayed up because it certainly wasn't my riding skill.
Still a great ride.

Glorious riding weather in the Florida panhandle. Mid 70s with nice cloud cover. A bit of wind (~10 mph), but not nearly as gusty as yesterday. Got in 42 miles.

For me, as ever that means did I ride this weekend. And after a few months of surfing. Then nothing due to Sandy. With road debris still strwen everywhere we eventually got out on the trail instead of the road — what a relief!

Rode up this path in the dark tonight, about 6.5 miles each way plus 2 miles each way to and from the start about 10 miles or so.
I use this path to get from home to the National Cycle Centre where a lot of the organised Sky Rides I go on start from.
Just found out tonight that it is 18 miles from the start in Chorlton to the NCC so when I add 2/3 miles from home to the start and then a 16 mile ride I have been doing 58 miles without even knowing it.
No wonder it seemed to take so long to get there.
And doing 20 miles in an hour cant be bad either on an MTB anyway

16.9 miles including hill repeats - 2 sets of 6 reps of 30 seconds hard uphill, coast back down - cold but not as bad as monday, and I probably need to find a tougher hill to repeat.

Only had time for 25 miles this early am in 38ºF weather with a windchill of 34ºF(of course that's the windchill if you're just standing, not cycling).
