Did you ride today?
Don't mince words
I got home later than I'd planned and convinced c_gallagh to do a quick recovery ride with me. Was it the mild temps? The golden sun and long shadows? The smell of drying out from extended wetness? Something inspired me to sprint the hills and push the pace. And toward the end he pushed me and we traded spankings. It was great fun, getting home just before civil twilight, until he flatted 3 blocks from home. At least it wasn't a long walk home. And the fun factor outweighed that suckage. Flat happens.

Looked as if it was going to rain this morning but the sun broke through the nasty overcast around 10:00 am. Took advantage of the sun and warm temp (76º) and went to the MUP for a very nice 25 mile ride at almost my normal speed for the first 15 mile lap. I would have done 30 miles but the skies started to turn nasty again and the wind had really picked up. Took it easy on the last 10 miles, when the winds started getting stronger, as I wasn't sure how the knee would react to the extra resistance. 25 miles in 1:36 and all is well. Hope tomorrow is a better day.

Forecast was for rain in the early AM so I didn't think I'd get a ride today. No rain and roads were not wet at 4AM--so I headed out the door and got in 42 miles.

The clouds remained with us today after the latest cold front passed through yesterday. Our little bit if rain and the mid 40's are nothing compared to what you guys in the Northwest, High Plains and the Texas/Oklahoma area got with temps and snow fall. Git in a ride, the north bound legs were pretty chilly from the NE winds, the south/SSE parts were nice and fast from the tailwind. Layers did the trick, although an extra jersey and a sweat shirt under everything with long tights over my shorts seem minor after reading what you all have to wear.

I worked out a 2.7 mile loop I can do right from my front door, which gives me about 90 feet of climbing per mile. So it serves as "hill work" and is something I can do pretty safely after work since it's all on neighborhood streets.
I did five laps of that last night. Not quite as boring as riding a trainer, plus it makes the neighbors nervous

After the all night and morning rains and the Weather Channel's 80% prediction for the entire day, I thought I was going to pass the day moping around the house. Then the sun came out for a bit so I jumped on the hybrid and did the Between The Raindrops Neighborhood Ride. The sun didn't say out very long but it didn't rain either and it was enough to get me another 10 mile, tee & jeans ride.
It was also ride number 198 of the year which broke 5,000 miles (5,004 miles). When I got done, I took out the trusty calculator and took the ride days, 52 recovery days and the travel days without a bike and that left me with the number of injured days that I didn't ride. Calculating the number of miles I ride each day, plus two century rides I missed out on, would have given me right at or just over 8,000 miles for the year. What a great ride year that would have been had it not been for all those injuries.

John,
No need worrying about what we cannot change, your mileage is still quite an accomplishment. I admire you and your determination to overcome the health problems and to beat cancer.
I took today as a day off for this week, too cold and windy today, even after the sun came out. It got up to 53 at the house but we had a good wind chill. I am headed to the LBS in the morning to look at a winter weight jersey and tights with a chamois or a bib tight so this does not happen any more. My tights and bib tights are really light weight as is my only LS jersey, normally this is fine but I want to have 1 set of mild winter gear for our climate.

Thursday afternoon it warmed up into the low 60's so I took a nice out and back ride to shake off the cobwebs and to clear my head from work stresses. No wind to speak of and sunshine the entire time. The head clearing and web shaking worked very well.

Puny miles this week. Four miles yesterday evening after work. In the dark. Not so cold, though.
Three miles. all within our neighborhood, on the Screamer with stoker this afternoon after working at home - easier to get out before dark when I work from home.
Later took stoker out for our 34 year anniversary dinner.

Got tired of being a slacker and finally got a ride in, 36 miles.
Between trying to get over this cold, rain, and oversleeping one day, I finally managed to get my lazy butt on the bike.

Yesterday's 15 mile ride at the MUP turned out to be pretty brutal with very high winds and higher wind gusts. That's what I get for going late in the afternoon. Getting ready to head out for this morning's ride and beat the afternoon winds.

A planned day off the bike today (after two days of pushing it a bit), but I rode yesterday afternoon for about an hour. The sun was out, the temp went up to 49 F and I was overdressed and sweating! Not so common for mid-December in Ohio. This morning I took about a 40 minute hike on trails nearby.

30 miles this morning over a familiar route, but with a new "extension". Just enough S/SW wind to keep it ... ahem ... interesting. Not too impressive if you look at the stats, which is why I'm not posting them here.

What??? Only 2 wheels?

After a business week in the Chicago suburbs I'm back home again, so Sharon and I did 20 miles on the Minuteman Bikeway on the tandem, Bedford to Alewife and back. Started about 2:30, temperature about 40F, finished about 5:00, temperature in the low 30s. We did the return trip with the generator running and lights on, unnecessary at first but definitely required by the time we finished. It was nice to get back on a bike.

18 miles this afternoon on the local bike paths. About 60 deg. and almost calm winds. Would have been nice to get out on rural roads and put in a few more miles but I had to use what time was available before dark.

11 miles this evening. Didn't rain while I was out. Temp around 50. Supposed to be warmer tomorrow. And, perhaps, we may see Mr. Sun!

My goal this morning was 40 to 50 miles before my beloved Giants started their game in Atlanta at 1 PM. Forecast was for sunny skies although there was a lot of clouds out when I left home. All was good for the first 20 miles then the skies turned black and the rain started. Rode the last 5 miles in a mini monsoon and was soaked to the bones cutting off my ride at 298 miles.
